Had a really good BFS day at the Murr. Final count was 24. The largest was just under 4 lbs. Most were in the 2-3 pound range, with a few dinks scattered in there. Even the short fish were pretty weighty with bellies bulging from shad.
The best part was that the first 11 bass were all on top water ...

Back to Cap 3/27
Didn't lose time this time. So the aliens were busy else where. My first stop no topwater, but started getting them on a short leader dropshot and senko. The spots i hit on Tuesday did not pay off as there mouths were sore. Had to find new areas, where they would bite and that is not a problem right ...

4/4 Cap
Was in line early with 20 others. Mad dash to get on the water. I don't do mad dash. They are taking water again, it was down a foot from Tuesday. The day started off slow and pretty much had company where ever you go. Took me a while to figure out most had pulled out a bit 10' to 20'. There were ...

Re: Some are eating...
Just for posting that.... here is a small bass I got at the river earlier in the week. Only landed him and messed up on 2 other opportunities that took me into under water branches. My fish needed to eat more....ha ha

4/6-Return to Murray
Geez, I guess it is apart of being old but with the recent heat waves, water going up and then down to even close the ramp and then back up a little to open the ramp at Murray,I just have not fished there much at all. With a little cooler weather in the forecast, I decided to give it a go this ...

It was 7:30am and I just started to head out to the SD River. As I was driving down the freeway, I suddenly thought why not just keep going and head up to the lake...I mean pond of D & K. I know it was crazy as I would get a
real late start, but what the heck! On the water around 8:30am,missed the ...

Re: War mouth sunfish
They may not be exactly the same but they sure do act the same so I will be wrong when I say it but hey, it could be a hybrid now.

Re: Question for the group
Oceanside area, local, how about Lake San Marcos? I've heard good things about the bass fishing there too.
Otherwise Lower Otay would probably be best city lake if you had a boat or a kayak to fish outside the tules. No boat? From a shoreline, maybe Lake Murray for the most shore fishing options ...

El Capitan Bluegill 10-26-25
Fished at El Capitan in the kayak on Sunday in calm sunny Fall conditions. Bluegill!
The bass were crashing around on top here and there, until early afternoon. They were very picky about eating. Fun watching and following the packs of them hunting in open water on the electronics, and I had a few ...

Lake Hodges Variety Slam 02-16-26
Found these with either white or yellow crappie jigs in the main channel suspended 5 to 12 feet deep out in 20 feet of water. Always fun. The fish stayed suspended and feeding all day long with an approaching storm, and the associated barometer / pressure dropping. The catfish was up just under the ...

Re: Lake Hodges
The only way to catch a carp on the fly consistently is to find the ones feeding. Otherwise it's almost impossible to catch one. Sure you may get lucky and catch an incidental one but I can guarantee it will not be duplicated. I've never been to Hodges but you'll need to do more observing than ...

Landed my first carp
After several coming unhooked and losing a few at the net, I finally landed my first carp today. They are surprisingly good fighters! 4lb main line to a 3/4 egg sinker, bait spring with dough and 2 hooks with corn kernels.

Homemade chatterbait, 10lb mono.
I took me 10 tries to get her in the net. Evertime I got her head in, she would back out and shoot down. This fish knew exactly what a net was and exactly how to avoid it. I finally got her in because she was ...

Old Glory 9/16
Howdy. I wasn't gonna write this up but a fellow sdfish member inspired me to do so. I did a turn around trip so two in a row. The first trip went as follows... Arrived in the zone early enough to get a 2 hour night bite which was super surprising to me, fished hard but nothing was cooperating. Grey ...

TP Halibut 11/5/23
I was up early because of the time change. I checked the cams on Surfline and Torrey Pines looked very inviting. I fished the south of the side lagoon entrance around Tower 4. I read the beach and found a channel that was leading out from the shore. Around the channel there was a nice drop off and ...
