3/13- Lake Miramar

I thought about driving all the way up to the Lake of D & K, but instead made a closer run up to Lake Miramar. Decided to just take my small 10' '5" kayak that has no electronics on it and also meant I could not take a lot of gear with me so I just loaded some worms and some creature type baits, a couple rods and off I went. Worked plastic worms off a few points and probably was working them too fast as the hot weather makes me think it was summer..ha ha. I slowed it down and finally picked up a few clones. Sounds strange but I like to fish in deeper water at Miramar and found some more takers. Later went in closer to the tulles and picked up a bass after losing one that escaped going deep in the tulles. I decided to toss some baits into the tulles despite not having a flippin' stick or rod with heavy line. Boom!.... was rewarded with a nice 4.50 bass that slammed my beaver bait. Missed a few bites in there, but ended up having a fun time landing 8 bass(mostly clones) on Friday the 13th and did not melt to death...ha ha

The bass was kinda long and at first, I thought it would weight a little more…just by site as compared to the other bass. Either way, I was happy to catch it and it put up a pretty darn good fight.

When you say tulles, on the main center part of lake or were you in one of the bays. I will have to try my luck in the reeds next time there. I never have fished the tulles only outside them. I guess I am afraid of losing tackle but it's time I learn how to fish differant tackle. Each time out I try something new, last time out tried a Neko rig with success. OK....I fish Miramar differently than most and stay out away from the tulles and basically do not not go deep in the coves at all.
Years ago I fished in and out of each cove, but now just stay out in the main body of water. Like working areas of the edges of where the cove would start. If you look at the fishing piers there, I about that distance from the shore most of the time.
The water around the tulles or reeds at Miramar in most areas is pretty deep and the reeds are really thick compared to other areas of water I fish. It is funny but I like to flip, but for some reason over the years I just haven't done it at Miramar mostly because of the thickness of the reeds and normally I am flippin with braid line and the water is so clear at Miramar that I always figured that the bass would see there line and it would spook them. I guess I have been wrong based on a fellow angler who slays them with braid there. Anyway, I got lucky as I found a few pockets just messing around with only 12lb izorline and caught 3 in the reeds and lost one. It is intimidating but if you can find even a little open area, just take a chance and flip a worm or craw or creature bait Texas rigged in there and you may get a surprise or get snagged. The surprise of a bass slamming your bait is well worth it over a snag.
ps. Reel in as fast as you can if you get a bite because that bass has about a 75% chance he will wrap you up. Tight lines

I had no electronics on my Kayak, but I imagine it was in the early 60s and the water is very clear.

It's hard to believe but remember when the lakes had floating bathrooms?
It was a nice site rather than heading all the way back to the dock.

I have to admit I do ask a lot of questions and I don’t get a chance to go out to the lakes much because of health reasons but I still want to learn for the few times I can go with my buddy who has a boat but doing much shore fishing I can only stand for about 45 minutes.
As my son the teacher says ( there’s no question that shouldn’t be answered ).
Sorry if I ask to many questions but I will continue, don’t answer if you don’t want to.

Hey Vito...I was just messing with you as sometimes I do with McFish and sorry if it came out wrong. I am pretty much an open book
as many know and always try to share what baits I used and riggings etc. on my fish posts. Many have told me I share too much, but
heck I do not fish tournaments and just love to bass fish and try to be helpful. Regarding questions: What is funny is when growing
up my father used to tell me I was too meek and need to ask more questions because that is how you learn things. It did help me
understand things a lot better through the years. As you imagine, now in present day I babble on about 99% of the time and only ask
questions about 1% of the time...ha ha. So nothing wrong with asking as your son pointed out. If I don't answer there is a pretty darn
good reason like who do I like more.... @Mcfish or @Fisheromen ?

I like McFish best!!!! I must admit that I've asked questions for 70 years, everytime I see someone catch a fish! I have quite a large library of the answers in my brain! If you want to be a better fisherman, ask questions and put in the time on the water! Be careful when asking Mr. Vinnybass questions....you better have an hour to listen to the answer! Between Vinnybass, Fisheromen, and Myself..McFish, we probably have over 200 years of fishing experience....so we've probably been there, done that before! After 8 hours in a tube and 95 degrees...i pretty much feel like I'm 200 years old....! All FFS questions go to Vinny, I love finesse questions, and all moral questions go to Fisheromen!

Great Thanks for the info. I fish Miramar or San Vincente more than any other lakes. I have a small gregor I have set up for bass fishing.
