El Cap 0510 Shore Bang

Post by CorsoEnthusiast »

After a fun day at Barrett Saturday I slept in and ran some errands Sunday morning. By lunchtime the itch to fish had set in, so I decided to head out to El Cap with just one rod and a few packs of worms in tow to see if I could find a few fish to get my fix. Arrived at the lake around 3:30PM

First off - launching is extremely precarious right now. You need a 4x4 to get to the only area that isn't quicksand at this point because the water level is dropping so fast. Might be able to launch if you're willing to cart your yak a long way from where you parked. Just wanted to add that in case anyone is thinking of heading down there - the launch is gonna be a major problem until that muddy silt dries out.

Now on to the fishing. I got one to the left of the docks in my first few casts, then spent another 30-40 minutes before I moved to the Dam arm. Roamed a bit down there and finally found some rocks off the bank with some fish on them, stayed on that spot the next couple hours.

Finished with 6 fish in about 3.5 hours and a couple other missed bites on the dropshot. It was windy, beautiful, peaceful and just what I needed yesterday.

Several years back Barrett had been let down quickly resulting in "quicksand" conditions. Some guys brought down some pallets to aid in launching. Worked quite well!

Unfortunately, no. I should’ve taken pics around the dock area at least.
