Mission Bay 10/24

Post by Nelson 1 »

I was on the water at 6:30 am. Caught 2 Bass the first hour. Then nothing for the next 2 hours. My shoulder was starting to hurt. Since it was a nice day out. Like summer, I decided to do some trolling around the bay. Caught 4 more on the troll. Off the water by 11:00 am.

FYI, you should consider physical therapy. I had some surgery on my shoulder a few years ago, went to physical therapy and regained full range of movement. Then a few months later, started hurting and went to physical therapy again and with a few exercises, problem went away in a few days.

I have also had "fishing elbow", aka tennis elbow aka tendonitis. It also responds well to specific exercises. Switching between spinning and bait casting and using soft plastics instead of crankbaits also helps.

Might have to look into that physical therapy. 67 years old everything Is aching more.

Did your shoulder pain kinda come up out of nowhere? Mine started with a little discomfort, then a popping feeling, followed by decrease in my range of motion. Very painful at the limit. For a while my left shoulder and arm were virtually useless. I went in for the various tests and it was determined that I had Calcific Tendonitis. It can come and go they said. Mostly it just sits there in the background waiting to rear its ugly head when I move wrong.I do a series of stretches every morning, heat helps, but it really hasn’t got any better. 64 sure is fun….whats next?

I think it was a career I chose. I was a truck driver household good mover for 40 years. All that heavy lifting and stairs took its toll on me. Stretching does help. I think I need to do some stretching before I go fishing.

Exercise #3 of https://www.surreyphysio.co.uk/top-5/to ... -shoulder/ is what fixed my problem. I do zero stretches. But a good physical therapist will get the right exercises and/or stretches for you. I am 72 and have full range of motion on all muscles despite being diagnosed with some arthritis. I have other exercises I do that work when my lower back bothers me. Being physically active helps a lot, being sedentary is asking for trouble. I take no medication for discomfort.

There is a condition called "frozen shoulder" that occurs if you don't move the shoulder thru its full range often. You don't want to let that happen. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-con ... c-20372684

As far as range of motion goes, use it or lose it.
