El Cap 8/23 All about the crank!

Post by Moose »

One of my best days ever for El Cap!

Launched about 6:30 and headed over to the island that used to be in the front part of the lake. Started off with the frog on got a chunky little guy on my third cast. Two casts later I got a 3 pounder that choked it. Two blow ups, two fish. Thought it was on at that point. Then things reverted back to last week. Several blow ups that missed the frog. Oh well, still fun getting the blow ups. I got one more frog fish late in the day that somehow snagged itself in the stomach when it blew up on the frog. That was a first for me

Things died off when the sun came out so I ran to the North end with a crankbait and it was on! Second cast, solid fish, next cast a small one pounder. Two casts later I jumped off a 4-5 pounder. Worked about a 300yd stretch for pretty much the rest of the day with consistent action.

Ended the day with 27 fish. 24 on the crankbait and three on the frog. Best five with JUST under 20lbs, 19.87 with a big fish of 5-10. Had the 5, two 4’s, numerous 3’s. It was one of, if not the, best day I’ve had at El Cap.

I threw the frog, and two crankbaits all day and that’s it. The crankbaits, a Berkeley Money Badger and a Strike Kind 0.5, were really all I needed.

The bugs were as bad as I have ever seen there whenever the wind died. They seemed to drive almost everybody out of the North end of the lake. Other than that it was an awesome day!

Wow!
That is one heck of a fun day of fishing!
Looking at those pics, you could see how much fun you guys were having. Those are some healthy bass, buddy. You probably wore the paint off some of those crank baits ha ha! Anyway, thank you for sharing and tight lines always. :-)

There wasn’t a lot of grass in the North end. I threw the frog in the front and the crankbaits in the back of the lake.
