Barrett Lake May 21st report
Another nice day at Barrett lake. Got there bright and early and met up with Chuck, Joe, Steve and Ismael. We all headed to various headings in the dark. Water was at 68F on the surface, air was 60F. There was a southern wind in the early morning, but it gave way to a mirror surface lake quickly.
Couldn't get a lot of action on the plastics, but that's my skill level, I assume. Switched to topwater and had a reasonable amount of success but it felt a little slower. Chatting with others, they had the same opinion. Worked my way back in Hauser, and started getting them on jigs on the rock wall, the method was to work an area with the topwater (efffectively on the shore) and come back and look with the jig. I think I actually got one fish twice that way, he had a hook hole that was fresh and was oddly familiar. Went to the shallow area of Hauser to play with bluegills and a tiny grub. Turns out that 1-3 pound bass also eat that stuff and on a 4# test line with a whippy spinning rod you have a lot of fun. That might have been the bulk of my fish caught. I poked around with the BFS rods and my little jerkbait and a little sample size crank. They also produced a lot of fish and a lot of fun, because they would surprise me with a good fish fairly often. Big fish of the day for me was 3.5 pounds on a small jerkbait and was a lot of fun on the light rod. Day warmed up to mid 80s and the water made it to 75F.

Nice job using a variety of weapons! A number of years ago our usual tactics failed to get much action and we happened to stumble on those tiny grubs that landed surprisingly large and numerous bass along with the assorted panfish. The biggest issue was keeping a jumping bass on that tiny barbless jig head long enough to lip em.

Great job! I think next time I get out there I want to focus just on BFS and Ultralight stuff. Cheers!

When I last saw you things were pretty slow except for dinks, switched to a NEKO rig and things picked up quite a bit. Went across bay to a point i fished last year, fished till 11 and landed 30 something bass with 6 gills.

Thanks Steve. When it’s the right area any wake bait will work, last week I was able to get them, so the Rat made an appearance this week.

Kayak/Tube spots are way easier to get and when they go on sale and June-Sept typically do not sell out until a few weeks in if at all.Radar135 wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 10:48 am Do you guys ever buy a ticket on ticket master or just show up....seems like you are there alot
