3/18-Calm before the Storm
I wanted to fish this morning and even with the threat of severe thundershowers, I figured a few hours is better than nothing,
Loaded my kayak on the truck and didn't bring much tackle but had rain pants and jacket packed just in case. When I got to
the San Diego river is was clam and actually clear skies for a while. But I could see the dark clouds out east in the distance
heading my way.
I started flippin' a Tokyo rig in the stick-ups and switched over to flippin' a senko. Stupid me...I was daydreaming and a bass
grabbed my senko and took off into the cover and I boned the hook set. That was a bummer! After a bit I went back to the
Tokyo rig trying different trailers and back to a craw trailer. I flipped it under an overhanding tree brand and go my second bite
of the morning and horsed in a bass. Not big, but a fighter. Back to the a senko and my line started heading down the bank and
I landed another bass. The way they fight at the river makes them seem like they are a much bigger fish.
Looking west, it was basically clear skies with a few clouds, but the dark thunderstorm clouds were approaching
fast and I needed to get out of there. Of course I had to get in a few more casts and picked up a smaller bass on the senko
right before I left. So for 2 1/2 hours of fishing I had 4 bites and landed 3 bass. Again, nothing big, but happy I decided to
take a chance and get a few hours of fishing in rather than sitting at home.
Short...but a fat belly Right before leaving, I picked up this small one

Re: 3/18-Calm before the Storm
That low pressure sitting to the east of us has brought some wild weather to the East County. Not sure how long it will be parked there? It brought hail and 1/3 of an inch or rain to my place on Thursday. Not as much today, but the winds out of the east were pretty strong.
Thanks for sharing and way to get out there!!

Nice fishes! You wouldn't have wanted to be on the water if the thunderstorm we had would of headed your direction...wise move getting off the water!

Nice work on those fish. I always get a bit nervous being in a kayak before a storm, that's good commitment on your part.

A funny thing happened on the way to the ramp at El Cap today. Wind wave's , rain and hail, twenty to twenty-five boats trying to get to the curtesy docks ; I’ve never been in a circus like that ; the weather let up as the last boats pulled out.

Re: 3/18-Calm before the Storm
I was in that Storm at El Cap. Had a pattern going when it started to move in. We ran back to the dock and tied up and sat in the Truck as all hell broke loose. Hail,Rain, Wind, Lightning. It shook the Truck for about 1/2 hour and then was gone. Turned into a beautiful afternoon, unfortunately they closed the Lake at 1 pm due to the Lightning. I saw the 65 1/2 pound Catfish…
