Re: Cut Braid?
Replace. All be damned if I’m going to risk a weak spot on a $300-$1000 dollar trip, much less the fish of a lifetime. U
Keep the remaining line and spool it on a smaller reel or use it for backing on a spinning or fly reel.

Re: How much of a workout is float tubing?
I always use waders. Even though the water temps are up, they are nowhere near 98.6 degrees. Water is very efficient at sucking the heat out of your body. I tend to fish longer than most. My buddies that try the no wader thing invariably want to leave before the Evening “ Grey Bite” my favorite part ...

Re: Anyone Ultralight fishing Bass in Barrett?
While I have fished small Swimbaits on 6 pound during the heat of the Summer, right now is Big Bass time. I’m throwing 30 Braid and 15 Fluorocarbon leader on a 2500 size Spinning Reel and a 7 foot 10-20 fast taper rod. Really lays it to them. The thing is the next fish you get there could be 8-10 ...

Re: San Vee 5/22
That first fish, we have always called a Pumpkinseed. They have a longer gill-flap and look like they were painted by Timothy Leary. I was once told they were a hybrid of a Bluegill and Green Sunfish. Could be.

Re: Murray 'Gills
I love my 3 Wt. Makes small fish big and big fish huge! I landed an 8 pound Brook Trout on it at Irvine Lake on a Black Woolley Bugger.. That particular Stock also contained Brown Trout to 10 pounds. It took all I had to get that bushy fly out there with that little 7 foot rod. I couldn’t land the ...

Re: Murray 'Gills
Believe me, I wasn’t using 6x tippet. I knew there were big fish there and ran hand tied 12-10-8-6 pound leader for a solid turnover of the Woolly Bugger. After that it was glorified handlining. The hard part and it happened on one of the Browns was not stepping on the line during their fury and ...

Re: How much of a workout is float tubing?
Take it from one who knows. Get a viable stretching routine and stick to it religiously. I’m 61 and basically worked as a glorified Mover for 40 Years, picking up three Spinal fractures along the way. I mostly wake up in terrible pain, but after Coffee, Toasted Whole Grain Bread, and 15 minutes of ...

Re: Hodges
Going to be Combat Fishing for a few weeks. The Crappie will be deep now. Quality over quantity is a high probability as all the fish have been forced to live in a smaller area. Big chows on Small. CPR the big Girls to maintain their genetics. Pull out all the Shad sucking Carp you can. More food ...

Golden Bass
Is this one of those Golden Phase Largemouth I’ve read about. Note lack of markings and the Red Eye.

Only for leader, horrible for mainline on Spinning gear and generally had lots of memory on Conventional gear.

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos
My favorite color Worm is not really a color. Black. Straight, no flakes, glitter, Curly tail. I mostly bought 8 inch and cut/melt the tip with matches, not a lighter, for length. Lighters leave a smell. Texas Rig, Wacky, wacky with a nail. My Dad showed me those techniques in the 60s. Funny how ...

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos
Back in Eastern Waters, you can barely tell the mud from the water, those Chartreuse tipped baits are legend. Here in California most of our water is vastly clearer. I believe the clearer water demands a more natural color. Now people will say I caught one on an Orange worm or Jig with bright Green ...

Re: Success at Sutherland
I’m having the exactly same problem at my local Lake. Was so good last year I bought a yearly pass, and then maybe 4 Bass all Spring. I quit going and now head South to Newport Harbor for my Bass fix.

First I’d like to thank Dave G and Laurie for helping set this up. I have been fishing with Tony for a few months, he has Stage 4 Lung Cancer and needed some time on the water. I have been fishing Newport Bay with him, kind of training him to fish for Largemouth Bass. The skills you learn from ...

Re: Santee Lakes Bluegill Blossoming
Look up 1wt fly rods on EBay. Makes those Gills fight hard, bend your rod clear down to the handle, adds a bit of Crazy to the equation for $60 for a complete package. Turns Creek Trout into Giants!
