Lake Wohlford
Hit Wohlford on Saturday for a recon trip. My buddy Bryn called up saying he was stuck in Escondido and needed to catch a Bass. Not a lot of Daytime options right now for some epic style fishing so I found some info on Wohlford and ran down, picked up Bryn and hit the Lake. It was $72 for two ...

Re: Ditch Pickles in the desert
Just another 2 hours and you could be sitting on real Pigs in the Lakes along the Colorado River. I regiularly get 5-7 pound “Bonus” Bass and had one run of luck that netted 7 Bass over 10 in 7 trips. Giant Flatheads are in the mix as well as Stripers, Smallmouth and Channel Cats. Just a whole new ...

Re: End of year in a frozen land.
Right below the dam, the Green River is spectacular fishing. My only regret is not using heavier line. Lost some monsters. Still landed over 100 Rainbow/Browns on a 6 hour drift in a float tube.

Re: SD Bay 1/20
While Surf Fishing last month I had those damn Mullet chase an Roostertail Spinner all the way to my Rod tip. The water was plenty clear. Sometimes the whole school turned and followed it. None ate it. I do well in Newport Bay on tiny bits of Shrimp on an #14 black Salmon Egg Hook under a Bobber ...

Re: Tiny jig has been killing it at Murray.
The small stuff works but if you want the Big Girls, throw them some meat. The Females will suck down Crawdads to get calcium for their eggs, mostly though, they will eat any meal that is easy to catch. A minimum of effort. They are slowed down by the cool water. If you were to dive down(I have) and ...

Re: Torrance Beach Corbina
Very MacGyver Sand Crab Trap. The water temperature seems to be hovering above 60, 62 in the afternoon on the beach today. Those Corbina are starting to fatten up, soon the Grunion runs. Then they get really fat. Should be a good year as the 5 year old class fish begin to show up shallow and hungry ...

Re: 12/1-Lake Miramar update
The good news is Bass are tough. I mean they survive just fine in the sewage that is the SD River. I know of a population of Bass that live in a Golf Pond that is no more than 3 feet deep and dyed green. It is filled with “reclaimed” water out of the Purple Pipes. They also survive in the Santa Ana ...

Re: total begginer
February 3rd, there is a Kids Fishing Derby at Lake Poway. If you could make it I guarantee you and your son will learn a lot about catching fish in the local lakes. Also, the Volunteers and Park Rangers are savvy and can help you with rigging and knots. All tackle is available at the Tackle Shop ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout
Most all the “Wild Trout” in So Cal are really Steelhead that can’t get to the ocean any more. These were the fish that repopulated the streams after times of extreme drought. There are some rare streams that flow East off the mountains that have never had access to the ocean. These are Purebred ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout
They taught us different at UC Santa in 1978. Of course knowledge increases as time winds on. We sampled Fish from unnamed streams in the mountain’s behind Santa Barbara, in the back country behind Camp Pendleton, and several streams that would have emptied into Salton Sea. Our results seemed to ...

Re: Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass
Bait fishing is an art. Lots to learn. I fish my ‘Dads exactly like Stitching a Plastic Worm, as I was taught by my Father, an excellent Live Bait Fisherman. Done correctly, you should get a Fish or two on each bait. Ideally my ‘Dads slide up the line when I am bringing in my Fish. No difference in ...

Re: Upper Otay??
Instead of inquiring, why don’t you go up there and give it a shot? It seems to me that there isn’t anybody talking about upper Otay. Do they not want us to fish their secret hole? All the lakes have die offs, they rarely impact the overall population of gamefish. Unless this pond has been affected ...

Re: Upper Otay??
I fished Lake Sherwood today in Woodland Hills. It had 0 inch visibility, the water was 54 degrees, and there was a 20 mph winds. There was no sign of any fish. I landed 11 Bass from 8-2 pm. All deep in the Reeds, the Bass were caught flipping weedless wacky rigged Senkos. Looking at a Lake and ...
