Go to bait

Post by Moose »

What is the one bait you turn to when you just need to get a bite? For me it’s either a 4” Senko T rigged weightless or it’s the old school Fluttercraft worm on a drop shot. I feel like I can always buy a few bites on one of those two baits. What’s yours?

Is that a lil' Brownie? I had forgotten about those. Caught a 7+ at Lake Ramona on one of those!

Mine is a neko-rigged Watermelon Seed Yum Dinger!

A couple of Winter/Springs ago I could not buy a bite until I put one of these on. I actually got 36 fish( and I swear I am not exaggerating that number) during one trip to San V during an early spring trip on those worms dropshotted. Nothing big but lots of fun 2lb fish.

It's even in my picture, I am almost always throwing a #7 Silver Rapala first. I try to play about with a couple lures each trip out to just get more adaptable, but you can bet if I am fishing, my light spinning rod with 4# or 6# test mono and #7 Rapala are with me. #2 favorite is a popper, either Googan or Megabass, occasionally the Hula Popper.

Actually it depends on the time of year I am fishing, but a Texas rig(with a light tungsten weight) using either a 5" pumpkin colored
thin Senko or a 6" MM Roboworm usually is a good choice.
but.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Ok..Ok... even though I don't always use it, a drop shot rig with a small plastic worm probably works the best at the odds of getting a bite or landing a bass. What's funny is that over the years how many times I have given advice to new bass anglers to use a drop shot rig as their best chance to catch a bass, yet for me(I really do not know why exactly) it is usually a last resort for me to try to pick up a couple bass or to try to avoid a skunk. So, if any of you see me using one.....it pretty much means I am having a rough fishing day....ha ha

Also a 4" regular Senko fly-lined or with a small nail weight can be pretty deadly at times.

Two easy answers for me.
6” roboworm on a dropshot
Megabass Vision 110 Jr + 1 (or any of the 110 family jerkbaits, they all get bit)

Both of those are in my 5 “desert island” baits, along with a white spinnerbait, a 10-12’ diving crankbait, and the 5” Slim Senko.

4" Morning Dawn Robo DS, or T-rigged green pumpkin trick worm or 6" Aaron's Magic Robo. I usually start out hoping to throw something else all day, but sometimes you just need a bite.

What's funny to me, is when we last fished at San V together, you and I mostly used our favorite baits. :)

Man! Those Maroon Fluttercrafts were deadly for me, had my highest quantity of fish in one session off those. Can you find em anywhere anymore?

Yup, Frank from US Bait Co! I just got a bunch of the 10” “artifishables” worms from him back in September after I caught my yearly PB (so far) on one. Great guy to deal with.
