And how does this change any of the facts?

lol you replied back, sat and thought about it, deleted it and came up with this? You made it a writing assignment when you took your chat gpt search results and changed a couple words before posting what you thought was a real mic drop. I’m glad a guy from OC googled what’s happening with San Diego lakes and water so he could tell us all down here what it is we’re dealing with. I’m mean, obviously there isn’t anyone talking about it this that does have “insider” knowledge as to the degree of truth in anything the city and water officials have said. But as long as you know the real truth, and you’ve asked AI what the “facts” are and you’re “in the know”, that’s all that really matters right?
So for 1, I live in East LA, not OC. I'm not allowed in OC.

So, let's get the geography right if you’re gonna gatekeep who gets to talk about SoCal water.

Second, editing a post for clarity isn't the grand crime you think it is. But notice how you've typed out whole paragraphs auditing my edit timestamp, my location, and my posting habits without refuting a single piece of actual data about SDCWA's debt structure or anything in general in regards to the thread topic.

Also, you don't need "insider knowledge" to read public water district disclosures or look at state dam safety mandates—you just need basic literacy as this is all public info.

But sure, keep believing there's a secret pipe draining your bass lakes to water lawns in Riverside instead of actual municipal mismanagement. :-D

Cost to keep Lake Miramar 100% full all year would be between 1.7 and $3.3M per year. The difference between keeping it half full and 100% full is significantly less than this but still expensive. So to keep it 100% full, fishing fees would need to increase to well over $100 (rough guess) or water rates to customers will have to increase. If you wanted to keep all the lakes at maximum capacity, it would be a lot more than this since Miramar is the smallest drinking water city lake. No one wants to fork over the money. If we went full desalination and did not use any lake water, the water rates would about double.

Good news is that with El Nino, there might be enough water to fill the lakes to capacity this winter. Bad news is that some of the dams are structurally weak and are not allowed to be filled to capacity due to safety issues.

Cost to fix Lake Hodges Dam (example) is approximately $500M.

for one, none of think Riverside is stealing our water. That’s what you’re not understanding. I don’t care what you posted, what AI tells you, what “facts” or “data” you “think” you know by searching online, dam inspection results; etc. I don’t think any of that is factual data. Bottom line, if you think our current water levels are due to every single dam on a San Diego reservoir being compromised while no other dam even just outside SD is, you my friend are a moron. Same can be said if you think political mismanagement is also not the reason why they are where they are. Moron. Can you post where I cited the time you edited your post? I can’t find it

They decided all those water level expense numbers were important enough a long time ago to keep Morena at the level it sits now, “due to evaporation (money) loss”. It’s weird those cost saving ideas were never implemented at ANY of the other lakes over this entire span, until now every single one magically has dam issues. Lak morena’s dam had nothing to do with that it was all about how much money they lost every hot summer in the offer mostly shallow part of the lake. And to sit here and say “the internet says this is why” is, again, retarded. Do you think a Bruce Smith of the San Diego bass fishing podcast is just some get off my lawn old guy mad about his favorite rock pile being high and dry?! The guy is a a retired sport boat captain along with being very plugged into the SoCal bass fishing scene. So when he complains and asks ?’s you might want to listen instead of talking about tinfoil caps and other stupid shit

Check it out for yourself—makes for great bathroom reading:

1. https://myvalleynews.com/blog/2026/03/2 ... agreement/

"Under the agreement approved March 19, the transfer of water from the CWA to Western won't involve physical transport between the two agencies but rather the MWD aqueduct system delivering water allocated for the CWA to Western turnouts... Western will receive at least 10,000 acre-feet of water over the next 21 years... The agreement will provide $13.5 million annually for the CWA, and including the up-front payments the CWA will obtain approximately $100 million of revenue over the next five years."

2. City of San Diego / State Division of Safety of Dams Official FAQ PDF (https://sandiego.gov/sites/default/file ... y_2023.pdf)

"This resulted in the State Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) changing the condition assessment for the dam from 'Poor' to 'Unsatisfactory.' Under this 'unsatisfactory' rating condition, reservoir restrictions (lower than the maximum storage) or other interim risk reduction measures are required... DSOD reviewed the study and has directed the City to restrict the water level to 280 feet... The boat launch ramp is unavailable for private boat launches, due to the 280-foot height restriction from the State Division of Safety of Dams."

Bureaucratic dry text doesn't lie: regional water deals are handled via MWD aqueducts to generate revenue for SDCWA, and local lake drawdowns are mandated by state dam safety inspectors because the city let the structures deteriorate to "Unsatisfactory."

I love Bruce Smith, he's one of the most knowledgeable guys for San Diego juice in both the salt and the fresh. I've listened to that specific episode many times and don't find anywhere where he disagrees with the facts that have been stated, though.

Bruce Smith’s take is actually pretty damn (no pun intended) grounded in reality. His argument is much simpler—and honestly, probably more frustrating:

Bureaucratic apathy, deferred maintenance, and some seriously questionable municipal priorities that place recreation last.

I’m confused as to what you mean by “that episode”… Bruce has and continues to ask these same questions to this day, commenting on every single post and continuing to post questions about he sees with our water situation. Definitely not sitting back saying “yep, it’s the dams and we just have to accept that”. Again, I couldn’t care less about any of these copy pasta paragraphs or links, those don’t change the way I think. And to say “bureaucratic dry text doesn’t lie” has gotta be sarcasm. No way you typed that with a straight face. Talk about drinking the look aid. You don’t even address anything I said about morena, because everyone knows that lake was ruined by the greed for the liquid gold it holds. Wasn’t the dam. Since you know all the deets about SoCal water I’m sure you know what’s happened with Loveland as well. Different water authority, same bullshit. Again, must be the damn right? Buying the dam story at SO may lakes at the same time is just goofy. But keep up the google searches and stay informed I guess

While some drawdowns might be “scheduled”, since I was a kid all of these lakes have been drawn down with any expectation of heavy rain. Every time, for the last thirty years plus easily. Heavy rain on the horizon? Move water from point a to z and just get it replaced free while we cross our fingers. This isn’t new, it happens every year, year after year. When was the last time you saw Jennings almost empty? Or the last time Santee lakes lost anything but the day’s evaporation? San Vicente’s dam is brand new. It’s insane how low it is and dropping every day. So the main San Diego reservoir gets drained “because of demand” yet we’re selling “surplus”? lol. It will always be about money. Everything else is just diversions even if partial truth

Ahhh...you've discovered Capitalism. What this great country is built of off.

:-D

That's why nobody builds anything that lasts anymore. Gotta buy a new anything every year or so.

I believe he is talking about his "San Diego Bass Fishing" podcast that he did specifically on the lake/water situation
