Fishing Superstitions - Proverbs
A fish caught on the first cast of the day means you will catch exactly 1 fish today.

Re: Fishing Superstitions - Proverbs
Whenever I see "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work" on a bumper sticker, I think that guy must have a miserable job. I would rather be at work than be skunked. I absolutely hate getting skunked.
More:
"There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the worm."
"Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if it kept its mouth shut."

Another: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day"

Fish on the first cast almost always means poor fishing that day.

Re: Fishing Superstitions - Proverbs
I was at the bay today and caught 3 fish on the 1st 3 casts. Wound up with 1 corvina, 1 halibut and 43 spotties. Imagine how many more I would have caught if I had not caught that 1st fish. Fortunately, I did not have to hook myself either.kastmaster wrote: Fri May 01, 2026 1:14 pm A fish caught on the first cast of the day means you will catch exactly 1 fish today.
