Dec. 4-Quick River session
The water is turning at the SD River...it is murky and green stained and also cold now. Put those things together and it was tough fishing. Did get 2 small bass on a Flashy swimmer with a Keitech trailer and got one bass flippin' a creature bait.
It was the biggest of the small bass so I included a pic for McFish to make some type of unusual fishing comment...ha ha
Haven't been fishing much...so it was fun to get out and toss some baits.

Thanks for sharing.
I take all the info I get from you regulars (Lake, SD River, Colorado River, IB Valley, Etc.) and try to use it on the rare times I get out there!

Most of the time I’m mixing it up between a Googan Krackin craw, Zoom Brush hog, Senko or a curly tail or straight plastic wormKillinTime wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 5:55 pm Thanks for sharing.

one this morning.

I'm sure one day you'll find a job and won't have to "live down by the river"..! good luck with that! .........P.S....don't eat those things!

Re: Dec. 4-Quick River session
Every year about this time, I switch to Flipping Nightcrawlers.(After the chorus of Boos…) I really am fishing and that includes catching fish. I get Bass, Redears, Bluegill, Trout, Stripers, Wipers and Crappie and Catfish. All fairly shallow and, Dannicus would like this, on light line. I get to throw 6 pound braid with an Albright to 6 pound Flourocarbon on my 1000 size gear which is really easy on my beat up old body. With the multitude of species, making contact with something, anything, is easier. Yesterday I went to my local Park Pond and landed 4 Bass while waiting for my buddy to show up and drop off my fins that I left in his truck our last Float Tube session. A Senior moment I really try to avoid. I only landed 2 Bass on that trip, at a private Lake no less. So I went to the “dark side”, it only lasts until February, when I seem to get back on track, and don’t have dirty fingers anymore. Good luck out there in the chilly waters. I’ll be putting up numbers and I use #4 Circle Hooks, so hook most everything in the lip or corner of the mouth. Super easy for catch and release. I highly recommend it, if your numbers turn to Skunk trips.

of you out there, but I would rather get skunked than use live bait. I used to use live bait several decades ago
and always preferred to use crawdads, but that is all in the past. Thanks for sharing and tight lines to you.

Re: Dec. 4-Quick River session
I used to Throw Dads at Hodges quite a bit. There were Canals criss crossing Orange County and the were easy to get. All those Canals are empty now, tough to get those Crustaceans for me now. If I can get a few fish drop spotting the Crawlers over my super squirmy plastics, I’m all in. The whole idea is catching a few over none. the Lake I’m fishing, while private, has been hit hard with Golden Algae. Where we used to get good numbers of Bass year round. My last trip I worked hard for two Bass. That includes 3 hours on the road, plus 6 hours on the water. I need a little more action. I don’t mind catching a few different species as long as I’m bent. So I’m not too proud to throw bait, after all I’m not fishing a Tournament. Hell if I could get them, I’d be throwing Shiners, but they are not available up here. To each their own, you seem to do well with spoons and other deep water tactics down there. It just hasn’t produced on my Pond. So I’m going to the dark side, I will return to the light soon enough. Maybe it won’t work at all. I’m going to give it a shot. Tight lines!

Re: Dec. 4-Quick River session
Update:
Turns out the Fat as Salamander Nightcrawlers went unused. I got to cherry pick 2 dozen Nightcrawlers out of the Bait Delivery Truck, for the price of a Starbucks Latte. I had them on Ice in a soft pack. They had a nice Float Tube Ride for nothing. I finally fixed my Bottom Line 2255 Fish Finder, so I started off the trip checking out the Lay of the Lake. The water was 56 degrees and fairly clear. Lots of marks from 12 to 18 feet. I put some quality special drilled and rigged Kastmasters on them, swam some small Jigs thru them, ran the gamut of plastics, drop shotted on their heads for not a touch. I changed out to my Magic Lure, a 1/16 Jighead and 3 1/2 inched of ZMan Trout Trick in Green Lantern. I threw that up near a sea wall and the line went tight in 2 feet of water. Two quick Bass off the Sea Wall. Then I came to some standing Timber and that was the ticket for the rest of my trip. With my light Spinning rod and 6 pound test I was able to land 7 of the 8 Bass I hooked, one taking me deep into the mess and jumping back there while winning its freedom. I got up next to the Tree Trunks and dropped that Jig straight down and just shook it. If I felt a snag, that was a Bass. So it turned out to be a Fun day for me, not so much for my friend that got a big fat Stripe on his back. I don’t think He wiggled his Jig right. Anyway, Rick bought Lunch and I even scored a Modelo. Another day on the water. Just a couple of pics, no monsters, It’s about time for some real picture fish to show up.
