El Capitan 10/24

Post by Dannicus »

Really nice day at The Cap. Caught perhaps a half dozen clones in the 2 pound range. Also a couple of three pounders. I thought I got pics of both of the threes, but evidently only got one. My old eyes aren't what they used to be it seems.

I also met Ron AKA @Bonecrusher and had a real nice chat about fishing, float tubes, bugs, and philosophies. It's always great to meet people from the forums out there, which is one of the reasons I make regular posts. People recognize me from my pictures here, and it makes a great ice breaker.

Happy upcoming Halloween all.

Was at Hodges on Wednesday and was complaining how tough its been to another guy who also barely got the skunk off. He tells me I need to try El Cap. Been saying I was gonna do it for a while, and with Hodges closing for the season the time seems right. Gonna head down Monday or Tuesday. Anxious to hook up on the new BFS. Have had it out twice without success. Anyway, nice fish!

I was mostly jig fishing. The dinks seem to be on top, but not many busters.

Nice catches. I was out there as well, late start for me as I didn't get on the water til 930.
I was able.to pick up 9.fish all in the 1-2# range. Got a few on the minnow and a few on the ned, rest were on a mini jig w/ wacky rigged senco....bite was tough at first, switched to a darker color and started getting them.
Between 3-4pm seen a guy at the front fork in a jon boat stirring up some busters. They were pretty active, I tried throwing to them, got a bunch chasing it, none really committed to the bite, I did have a bite but missed it, after that, they just chased but no bite. I've learned to not chase them around for hour when they act like this and fished nearer the bank. All my catches came in around 9-10' of water. Lake was so nice, quiet, weather was really good as well.

Like Dan said, great day to be on the water.

It was nice unloading the tube and launching without all those damn green bugs pestering you.

Planned on heading towards the back of the lake, but hit a couple points on the way. No luck on the buzz, so switched to the Karashi and got a 3 pounder first cast.

Fished the rest of the day and ended with 7 total.

Around 2:30, I lost the Karashi and decided to do a drive by of some rock piles and call it a day. I was working my way back to the launch and saw Dannicus fishing up tight to shore, so gave him a wide berth and then tucked in to hit a little strip of vegetation further along the bank.

Iโ€™m slowly working towards the launch parallel to shore, just on the outside edge of the grass line, when I hear a hot rod motor coming up behind me.

Just figured it was one of the Jon boats that were out. I could tell it was coming up behind me and sounded like someone was going to try and pass between me and the shore, about 7-8โ€™ away.

I turned around to see what the hell was going on and thatโ€™s when I see a cowboy hat and the back of a head coming full speed, right at me about 5 feet away.

I started to say โ€œWhoa!โ€, right as Mr Dan plows into me with his super tube! lol reminded me of those damn bumper boats we use to ride as kids.

We got a laugh out of it, no harm done. I thought he was staying stationary, and he thought I had continued motoring further out.

Got to talk to him at the launch and had a good conversation, and checking out each otherโ€™s tubes and motor setups. Just another good day on the water and yet another great fishing story to be able to tell friends about!

Looking into one of these bike helmets with a rear view mirror. Next time, Iโ€™ll keep an eye out for Dannicus!

I'm currently designing a bowsprit for the float tube. Next time we'll see who the real @Bonecrusher is. After that I'll be installing laser guided catapults for any of the rest of you jokers who consider getting in my way, (as soon as I get rid of the neck brace from my most recent catastrophic tube to tube contact that is).
