Murray 7/9

Post by Dannicus »

Topwater season has arrived full force at the Murr with fish busting all over the lake. I saw a few good sized ones come up, but mostly they were small, and chasing tiny bait. I got a handful on my usual topwater walkers, but I swear they have been practicing how to throw a lure when they jump, because I had more come unbuttoned than I actually landed.

After the topwater frenzy died down (mostly), and the wind started to ruffle the surface, I switched over to a small bluegill colored crankbait, and managed maybe 6 more. Mostly clones, but still fun on my BFS gear. I will share the bait in the BFS section.

Peace! Dan

I feel you Dan.
Sometimes I think about the bass that came unbuttoned more than the ones I actually
caught. There must be an underwater class they take on how to shake off a lure or something as I noticed this happening more and more over the last few years. Thanks for sharing and Tight lines always buddy. :-)

There are two tricks I learned back when I fished for money a long time ago and far away where Alligators chased your Bass. One was to switch out your trebles for Gamakatsu sticky sharp ones, the second was to add an extra split ring to the Hook. They can only rotate so far with a single ring and the Bass can throw that hook, the extra ring doubles the amount of rotation. You just land more fish. Just try it on your favorite lure. Next thing you know you will own split ring Pliers and have bulk rings in your stash of Trebles. Also even sticky sharp hooks get dull fairly quickly. Change them out when they don’t stick to your fingernail and just slide around.
