July Tickets

Talk about fishing one of the country's premier bass fisheries, Barrett Lake.

Seems like they closed Wednesdays but raised prices on sat/sun to offset the loss of revenue from that weekday, which either kept the overall lake revenue the same (or likely increasing it somewhat) while also reducing operating costs. Obviously it sucks and was preventable, but that appears to be their direction.

Could you imagine having a resource like Barrett and not be able to make any money off of it? Only the government could pull that off. It should be an asset, not a liability. What could the overhead be for a Wednesday out there? I can’t imagine they’re losing money every day that it’s accessible. It doesn’t add up for me. It makes me think they just want to punish us for not approving the sales tax hike and comfortably fund their ever-growing pensions. That way next time a tax increase is on the ballot people will definitely be more prone to vote for it. Why not just charge a couple bucks for access to Miramar? That would probably generate more revenue than anything.

They should maximize profits by selling the first 2 months of Barrett tickets using an auction style sale. Let Supply and Demand do its thing!

:-D

I'd sit back and eat some popcorn while the free market works its magic.

A lot these lakes around here weren’t open to the public for a very very long time. Wouldn’t be surprised if that happens again. It’s all about the alphabet club, making our streets sexy and other related crap. I never knew potholes were sexy.

Was thinking the same thing…seems like we are eventually headed to the closing of Barrett once again. Sad.

I think that because the budget proposal was closing the lake on Wednesdays, they had to sell tix based on that. As it appears, the closure is not happening. I'm wondering if they will release Wednesdays once this budget is final. That would make sense...but since when does our city do things that make sense?!
