Mother’s Day report (sorry mom)
It was a great to return to Barrett Sunday and probably better than mimosas. Theo and I got on the water at 6:30. It was the maiden voyage for Bassquatch -- our new two person fishing solution (a 10' pond prowler) which worked light years better than sticking Theo on the front of my tube.
Everything was epic. Fish everywhere, great weather, awesome people, and the special blend of solitude and shared excitement that Barrett delivers.
Weather was hot from 10-2 and otherwise really warm. Water felt like it was just below 70 (best guess -- no electronics). Water is low. Full moon.
The bite was definitely on, but they weren’t chasing everything. We had zero success with topwater or reaction baits—chatterbaits, A-rigs, crankbaits, and even 2.5” Slim Swims didn’t get a look. The day belonged to plastics.
Top producers:
Mini jig with a Ned trailer
Skirted Nako tungsten weight + Zoom Trick Worm (thanks @Dannicus)
Bitsy Bug jig with Missile and Baby Goat trailers (appreciate it @Pourboy)
Texas-rigged Zoto Worm
Weighted-hook Ika
Texas-rigged 4” Yamamoto Shiner
Ned rig with Ned BLT trailer
We didn’t even get around to Senkos or wacky rigs--having too much fun experimenting with other lures.
Final count: 101 fish landed. Theo put on an absolute clinic with 61 fish to my 40. I tried to even the scales with a few chunkers—my top three went 6.48, 5.8, and 5.5, and we had a healthy showing of 4s and 3s as well.
All told, it was a flawless day: boat didn't sink, fish everywhere, spending time with my son, and catching bigger fish than my son!

I didn't realize that was you guys when you were talking to Chris. Apologies, I didn't say hi to you guys. I was over by that rock losing a good fish and then losing multiple lures trying to get him back. Agree on Sunday that topwater had no action and talked to another person who couldn't get them to work. Congratulations on the maiden voyage of your pond prowler being a great one.

Great, detailed report! Reaper Boy may have to change his name to Ned lol. We learned last spring not to depend too much on the chase baits and have done much better on the deeper plastics. There will be plenty of time for the chasers later. Can’t wait to see Bassquatch too. Solid upgrade for you guys

Congrats on a great day. It's nice you picked up a rig to fish out of, but really happy you picked up a scale!

Yes the scale comes in handy and makes for less fishy fish storiesDfishin wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 2:17 pm Congrats on a great day. It's nice you picked up a rig to fish out of, but really happy you picked up a scale!

Re: Mother’s Day report (sorry mom)
I’ve got a 55lb Newport with a Lithium 100ah battery. Battery powers us all day all around the lake with little drain. Motor was initially transom mounted and worked fine. I read that they work much better on the bow so I tried that with a Jerry rigged rudder on the transom. Not sure what was going on, but the rudder solution did not work so the bow mounted motor had us blowing everywhere last time. Working on a solution!imstevenc wrote: Wed May 14, 2025 9:09 pm What are you powering that with? And what battery ? Looks like a great time . Congrats
