Barrett Lake May 7th report
Hi all,
Barrett is open for 2025 and it looks to be a promising season. Got on the water around 0500 and pedaled across the lake. Air temp was a chilly 50F, but the water was 62.5 F. First fish for me came 0517, Chuck had already gotten several by then on a jig. I was using a texas rig lizard and it was productive. The water smoothed out and whispered "topwater" to both of us and we were treated to quite a few topwater fish. Chuck caught them on several lures, I stayed with my tried and true black popper. We did our usual thing and went around and tried different places and different things. Jerkbait was the least successful. Small crank was pretty good. Lizard was very useful and for those who know me, here's a surprise, I caught the most on jigs. Met up with Joe and Terry for a bit and we jig fished for a while and found a few places that were bottomless on the supply of fish. Also got to fish with James a bit on the way back, at around lunchtime. Water temp was then 67F at the surface and air temp was whatever perfect is. Have fun out there, it looks to be a good season.

Re: Barrett Lake May 7th report
I'm using a couple different ones. I have a shallow diver for the shoreline at 1 to 3 feet deep, one that goes about 4 to 5 feet deep and then the deepest is about 7-9 feet. That one is the worst for getting stuff on it, so I tend to use that parallel to the shore and cast past the feature I want to target, so it's at depth when it goes past. Top bait for me is the 4 to 5 footer in literally any color. The only thing that seems to matter is the wobble. In that depth, I am using a SPRO crank that's flat sided. The shallow one is the Megabass Griffon also in any color. The deep one is a list of whatever is in my box that looks good when I switch, mostly DT rapalas.Dfishin wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 2:47 pm Where do you fish the crank bait? All I keep catching is the muck.
