I wet a line Sunday evening, maybe 6:00-6:45, around Crystal pier.
There are huge beds of micro sand crabs under the pier. They are too small to use in my opinion. I tried anyway, using 4 on a hook for 15-20 minutes. Then I switched to a jerk bait. No hits on anything.
Water still cold, around 58, but decent clarity. Grass was slightly annoying, random kelp chunks didn’t cause much problems. New swell hitting today probably has things churned up a lot more.
I saw 2 other people fishing, also without any catches while I was there.

Thanks for the report, I was actually wondering what the status is on the sand crabs with the water being so cold again

Re: Pacific Beach Sunday April 6
I found similar conditions Sunday morning at Mission at 6:15 am. Low surf, minimal swell. Tide was receding off an earlier 5.0 hi but nothing biting, just a couple of faint nibbles on mussel meat & small grubs. No sand crabs, not even micros. Bill Varney claims if you find micros, dig deeper below them to find bigger ones but I've never found that to be the case. Saw two other guys working the beach with fly setups but they were not getting into anything either. I bailed after just an hour & half.
