Monterey and vicinity
Leaving tomorrow early for Monterey bay area . Was going to try some plug throwing for Stripers . Forecast has changed in the last couple of days for 14 to 18 foot surf and some breakers 28 to 30 feet ! I have never actually witnessed 30 foot from the beach , should be spectacular . Guess I may be doing more of the sights and less fishing . After the storm the local Sea Glass beaches will probably be prime , staying in Seaside very near where the sea dump for Monterey was years ago . Hoping for the best , expecting the worst . Cheers , Happy Holidays and a Happy new Year ! Stay safe out there . WR

Re: Monterey and vicinity
Seeing 30 foot surf from the beach will just look like lots of whitewater almost everywhere, unless you have a pier, or surfers for perspective. Up there, go out to Mavericks(HalfMoonBay) or Santa Cruz (Steamers Lane) to see the surf display. Sunday(today), you can tune into the Eddie Aikau contest at Waimea Bay online to see people riding 30 to 40 foot waves. Be safe!
20+ foot waves break every winter here in San Diego. My brother shot this photo (below) in Bird Rock on Sunday December 22, 2024. The spot is called Little Makaha, and these same sized waves were also being ridden at Blacks Beach and La Jolla Cove. Much bigger waves than these are going unridden along the coast. YouTube has videos, shot every year in San Diego, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sju7AbV7wko

Re: Monterey and vicinity
Well had a good trip and saw some of natures spectacles . Surf was big on most beaches , cities had all access and parking roped off to keep us looky loos out . Locals reported some rescues and recoveries due to unwary people . One of the lots where my wife and I usually set up optics for watching Otters was full of bowling ball sized rocks and debris that was forced up and over a 20 Plus foot cliff face . Did not even take the rods out of the cases
