I found another versatile BFS bait that has been working well for me. Today I Caught several bass and bluegill on a Shimano World Crank 73F. The best bass was just over 4lbs.
It's an interesting bait, sort of a cross between a crank and jerk bait. It suspends so it can be worked like a jerk bait, and when cranking it has a slower wobble than a traditional crank bait. It has a bright foil strip suspended inside that is supposed to give it some extra flash. To be honest I kinda thought that part was a bit gimmicky, but then again, I can't argue with the results.
The bait isn't super expensive either. Let me know if you try it out and what you think.

That gimmicky flash might be the secret. Actual baitfish have subtle to no flash when feeding and definite flash when panicked as any diver will attest. The appeal of spoons, underspins, spinner baits and spinners to fish is thought to be the flash (or at least the changing appearance for the case of non flashy designs). Some lures are designed for an oscillating rolling action during retrieve for this reason.
The 4 types of crankbait movement:
Linear movement (i.e. straight line, any combination of x,y,z axes)
Yaw (side to side). This is the most common crankbait action and has strong vibrations that attract fish. But they wise up to it quickly.
Pitch (nose up to nose down)
Roll (flashing action)
Variations of the above include wide/narrow movement and fast/slow action.
With jig heads and swimbaits, the right jig head and body can even have a rolling action. To really take advantage of this, the body should be at least 2 colors or reflective so the appearance changes with roll. Putting the hook eye far forward reduces the amount of weeds the jig head picks up but putting the eye closer to the center of gravity gives a better action. A swimming pool is the best way to check lure action out.
The idea of the hard jerk bait is to give it a hard jerk to get that flash followed by the bait slowly rising or even staying neutral.
