Went back out to the beach after getting a larger setup and boy am I glad I upgraded. Fished the incoming tide, about an hour after peak low. It was slow for a bit, only got that short 12" bass for the first hour. After moving down the beach a little, as the tide was coming up, I hooked onto something that immediately took off after I set the hook. It was a bat ray, ~10 lbs ~30 inch wingspan.
Lots of impressed passersby that watched the fight. After taking a short break after unhooking it, I threw it back out and hooked up on another drag ripper within 5 mins. Was another bat ray, ~29 inch wingspan, also ~10 lbs.
All in all, a great way to break in the new combo

Re: Redemption 5/13
I have never prepared it myself, but I give them to my relatives who like them. They used it as a replacement for catfish in Canh Chua (Vietnamese tamarind-based sour soup). It has a clean, white-meat flavor to it.galen wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 7:02 pm Looks as though you’re eating the rays? How do you prepare them?

I've never caught bat rays in the surf, plenty of stingrays absolutely but at least you caught a decent sized bass

Re: Redemption 5/13
What are you using for bait? I can’t find a sand crab there if my life depended on it. I caught a ray yesterday, 5/16 in the afternoon. Hooked it’s wing.
