Glad SDFish is back! I sorta lurked a lot but didn’t post often since I’m busy with school.
anyways, the beach I went to was still missing a lot of its sand from that one storm last winter (15 foot storm surge), and along with it a lot of the surf grass. didn’t seem to bother the leopards though ...

Del Mar 5/5 -- lots of jellyfish
Took a break from studying for finals and went out on the beach for 2 hours this afternoon, fishing the incoming tide. There were a ton of man-o-wars. It was very slow until ~6 pm, then the bass hit less than 30 seconds after a cast. Got the spotfin shortly after, then it was dead again until i ...

Redemption 5/13
Went back out to the beach after getting a larger setup and boy am I glad I upgraded. Fished the incoming tide, about an hour after peak low. It was slow for a bit, only got that short 12" bass for the first hour. After moving down the beach a little, as the tide was coming up, I hooked onto ...

Re: Redemption 5/13
I have never prepared it myself, but I give them to my relatives who like them. They used it as a replacement for catfish in Canh Chua (Vietnamese tamarind-based sour soup). It has a clean, white-meat flavor to it.galen wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 7:02 pm Looks as though you’re eating the rays? How do you prepare them?

short sunset trip 7/27
got to the beach a bit layer than i’d like, about 7:40. Water is still warm, which is great. There was a metric fk ton of seaweed on the beach and in the water which, of course, smelled awful.
if we could get the bait through the seaweed, the fish bit very quickly. every time we hit a section that ...

8/5 & 8/6 north county
Salad was ungodly, yet again. Went around low tide 7-8
pm. Water temp is still wonderful, but with that comes a bunch of swimmers/surfers and, recently at least, snorkelers.
Anyway, fishing was pretty good. In those about 1.5 hours each day for those 2 days, we got 3 croaker, 1 sargo, a couple ...

Month of April
April is always nice as the water warms up enough to go barefoot in the wash. This month saw mostly small perch and some good sized croaker biting, although some baby leopard sharks came out to play in north county.

Hi guys, I’m planning to teach some people surf fishing at MB this upcoming sunday afternoon. It appears to be a deep negative tide according to the charts. I generally fish incoming tides, but never this low.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to how i can maximize the chance of catching ...
