Re: 11/21-SD River am session

Of course your plastic worm does not look like a June bug insect and lucky for you that it doesn't. Fish refuse to eat them so they must taste really bad if even a fish won't eat it. Never tried one myself so this is just conjecture.

But fish have probably never tried June bugs with Parmesan ...

Re: 11/21-SD River am session

Anyone know where to get soft plastics in a Satan's fetus pattern? I am going on the theory that the uglier the bug, the more attractive to the fish. Also known as devil's baby, Jerusalem cricket and a host of other monikers.

Re: gear suggestions

Unless you have really long legs, you probably want chest waders. Sitting on top of a cushion in a tube will not leave much leg in the water and when the fins break the surface, that can spook fish too. Plus, when a nearby boat causes a wake, the water will surge up higher too.

I fish most ...

Re: Roboworm or Senko?

I am more of a drop shot guy and the Robo is nice for that. It is more durable, more flexible and the laminated colors are very nice.

On the other hand, the Senko has a prettier Junebug color. Might mean less fish though since fish seem to like ugly.

It would be nice if the Robos floated like the ...

Re: Roboworm or Senko?

The Senkos that have fallen on the ground in the parking lot at Barrett and have been run over by trucks a few times are real soft.

Wacky rig on a drop shot definitely works.

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow

28 spotted bay bass on Saturday from the float tube in South Bay, mostly on weedless Ned rig in and around the grass. Definitely slower compared to the recent days with large tide swings.

Re: Can we talk restrooms?

Nicest restrooms will be at the Coronado Del but they may have a security guard to keep the riff raff out (e.g. fishermen).

SD Bay in winter

Launched from Cays, got a nice halibut, that pic is my avatar now. Wound up with 47 spotted bay bass and 2 halibut. Most were on a cow pie green (match the hatch???) curly tail grub on a 5/16 ounce ball head jig in 9-15' of water. Slow and low (1/2 crank, pause, repeat) retrieve as usual and feeling ...

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27

Jigging Rap was introduced in 1961. I love it when an old timey nearly forgotten lure kicks butt of new lures.

Re: Getting ready for 2025.

There are some very nice crappie in Barrett but almost no one fishes for them. Every once in while, one will slam a bass lure.

I have tried fishing for them after the bass bite slows midday with a crappie jig under a bobber but the bass won't leave it alone.

You say that like it's a bad ...

Re: SD Bay in winter

My method for landing halibut in the float tube:
1. Bring the fish up to the tube, this is usually not to hard. Next step is to really tire the fish out. When he seems to tire, lift his head slightly out of the water. This will cause the fish to take off; he wasn't that tired after all.
2. When ...

Re: SD Bay in winter

Additionally, to remove the hook(s), hold the jaws open with plastic pliers (https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-fish-gripper-pliers?gQT=1 ) and use needle nose pliers to pry the hook(s) out.

I would hate to see what your thumb would look like if you thumbed his jaw like people do with ...

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!

Sorry but I have read online that fishing slows down in the bay during the winter. You must be catching illiterate fish. Or ones without Internet access.

If only someone made them in bluefin tuna sizes.
What would eat them?
I meant in a size for catching bluefin tuna. Would be the ideal lure to drop when the captain says tuna are 100' below the boat. I did not mean a lure the size of a bluefin tuna, that would be way too hard to cast.

Party crasher

I had a good spotty bite going and then this guy decides to horn in. Too big for the net, too big for the tube, had to kick to shore just to land it, probably took at least an hour just to land. Released to get bigger. Got on a 5/16 ounce jighead and 4" clear grub, 6 lb test line. 26.8 lbs, PB, my ...

Re: Party crasher

Amazing catch. Unbelievable that you didn’t get chewed off. Where was the jig?

The jig hook caught in the corner of the mouth so the line never even rubbed against the fish. I felt the line afterwards and there wasn't even any abrasion on the line. When I got to shore, I put my rod in the rod ...
