Re: Elote ( Mexican street corn ) Recipe
My favorite is corn that has been smoked in a smoker and then grilled. I loaned my son (33 years old) my Luhr Jenson fish smoker and he 1st cold smokes the corn in that and then grills it. Or something like that, I would have to get the details. I think he removes the husk and silk before smoking ...

Re: Hot June Water Drop 7-7-24
I was out yesterday, all day. Got 16, half were between 2.6 and 3.4 lbs (love the digital gauge). All but one on a weedless Ned rig, other on a fat Ika. Despite the 103F forecast and heat advisory warning, it was quite comfortable on the water in the tube, all I had to do was roll the waders down ...

We had one last season but I returned it after a day because it seemed harsh on the fish (whoops, sorry Amazon -- I don't even think I washed it before sending it back). I may need to find something else if Theo ...

Re: 7/8- Miramar fun and done!
Do you always do this well or only when you are coming down with a virus? Miramar has a reputation as hard to fish. Seems like you haven't been catching this many fish lately. Maybe we should come over and get the virus you have. Covid? RSV? Flu?

Re: Olivehain resoivoir-want to get as much info as possible.
Probably great fishing, looks really good when I have been mountain biking in the area. It is filled with water from Colorado River so it will definitely have fish. The main thing you need to find out is what the penalty for fishing it is.

Re: Boat expenses or cost splits
$61.
Cost of the boat less 1 passenger is 123-30=93 or $31 per person. Add $30 to that and it is $61.
Your error was ignoring that the basic fee includes one passenger.
You are on you own for figuring out transportation costs, not just gas but wear and tear on the vehicle. IRS allowable rate is ...

Re: How to remove a hook from a gut hooked bass
I learned that from a guide in Upstate NY a few years ago. It works great and is about as easy as shown too.

Re: Classic 1967 Salton Sea Video
Fished it about 40 years ago, caught gobs of tilapia. Never fished it for corvina but it many said it was the best fishery in Southern California at the time.

Shark on shark

This is why you don't want to fall overboard. Reminds me of a time off Gaudalupe Island where there was a hot bite with 70 lb yellowfin tuna. Unfortunately the sharks got most of them.

Re: Barrett Big Bass
Odd that for such an effective technique, the backlash is no one's favorite method.
As an alternative, cast, have a beer, then start the retrieve. Might be super effective. But don't go overboard with too much of a good thing.

Re: So....Hover Rigs....
Looks like it would catch a lot of grass in the bay. Tube baits (e.g. the Scorchers you make) dart unpredictably and can even spiral down if you give them a snap when retrieving. For that reason, I usually use a swivel with fishing with them (also functions as a grass catcher).

Re: Productive bait Murray 11/1
That gimmicky flash might be the secret. Actual baitfish have subtle to no flash when feeding and definite flash when panicked as any diver will attest. The appeal of spoons, underspins, spinner baits and spinners to fish is thought to be the flash (or at least the changing appearance for the case ...

Re: Help finding something similar
What's the advantage of the split ring? There are lots of spinnerbaits with a single hook already albeit with a fixed hook.

Re: I’m not an expert.
So with all the attention the Ned rig gets today, it is fascinating that something very similar to it was used 30 years ago. I have a book https://www.amazon.com/Roland-Martins-101-Bass-Catching-Secrets/dp/1602392072 where Roland Martin goes on and on about how great the plain old spade tail grub on ...

Favorite lure of 2024
A bit early I realize but what is your favorite bait of 2024 so far? For any reason: numbers, size, a new bait, fun to use, etcetera.
For me, it has been the Ned rig with weedless Z-man head and a TPE tail (Elaztech or Crush City). It's quite weedless, very durable and fish definitely go for it. I ...

Re: Coronado Cays 11/16
Caught most of them on some ball jig heads Carpkiller gave me (he will probably ask for them back now) and cheapo 4" curly tail grubs that I buy by the 100 pack from Lockett lures. Lost about 2 heads and 6 tails so my cost was about $1 in lures.

Re: 11/21-SD River am session
In the Midwest, there is an insect called a June Bug that is very plentiful during the summer. As kids, we used to catch them, tie a thread onto one of their legs and watch them fly around (pre video game and cell phone days). As fish bait, they did not seem to work, grasshoppers were a much better ...
