SD Bay 12-7, slow

Post by galen »

Fished with two guys from work. Morning incoming wasn’t even 2 feet. Hot, no breeze, fish were taking a nap like I should have been home doing. Got a handful, just wondering who else was out and if you found anything consistent.

Went out of Tidelands on Sunday. It started out clear and then the fog rolled in. It ended up clearing out around 9am. Then the FOG rolled back in thick at noon. I couldn't see the Bridge from 200 feet away. The fishing started out slow but picked up around 8 and was consistent for the rest of the morning. My buddy and I ended with about 30 bass, 1 18" halibut and a small cuda. Mostly on cranks and chatterbaits. Chartreuse was the color of the day for both. Lots of solid quality bass and only a couple dinks. Video should be out tomorrow if anyone is interested. The tide was almost non-existent on Sunday as well.

Not sure where to fish this Sunday. The tide is going from a +7.1 at 8am down to a -1.6 in the afternoon.

Halibut bite has been great lately along the bay side of the Silverstrand. Just look for the pelicans working the schools of micro bait. Had multiple keepers every day from Friday-Sunday and early last week had 6 keepers back to back days with 15+ shorts each day. Key this time of year is to move around a lot until you find the bait balls, especially on those flat calm mornings

Thanks for the info. We found the balls you are mentioning, I was running a bladed swim jig under them. Looks like I should have devoted more time to that.

28 spotted bay bass on Saturday from the float tube in South Bay, mostly on weedless Ned rig in and around the grass. Definitely slower compared to the recent days with large tide swings.

Thanks for the info. I saw them diving on Sunday but didn't want to head all the way to there when I was already catching fish. I will definitely go there in the future though!

Always entertaining and usually pick up at least a new thing or two. Love that Square Mile Flat area but notice you and Brad went around the corner towards the Strand? I will have to try that as it seemed like the bite picked up over there. Getting my chartreuse baits ready for the weekend 😉

Alright, the verdict’s in. Me and my buddies stunk it up,
plain and simple. They say the first step is admitting that you have a problem.

Yes, and it has been good over there lately. Good luck! Please let us know how you do. Cheers!
