Re: Otay news concerning closing again.

What risk does an algae bloom pose that requires shutting down a lake?

Lawyers.

Little Timmy goes a'swimmin' off the dock and then dies after suckin' down some water, someone is going to be held liable.

Thanks.
I very seldom fish on a weekend, as that is one advantage of being retired. If I do ever fish on a weekend, I try to go on a Sunday as it always seems to be far less crowded than on a Saturday. Tight lines. :-)

Re: Wild SD Trout- Report

This is one of the situations where you wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze, but interesting for sure.

I remember being bitten by the fly fishing bug, enough that I would spend every weekend scouting random blue lines, coming home with bumps, bruises, scratches, and wearing down shocks and ...

"Stalking" Day at Probation

It's stocking day at Probation Pond, and the locals couldn't be happier, as the ramp was loaded with anxious individuals ready to score a stocker, or 12.

Re: "Stalking" Day at Probation

When did they realize they were hooked onto each other's line? When the lines came completely out of the water?

Pretty much.

The dude next to us was saying, "he's about to jump! he's about to jump!" and kept sticking his 'pole' in the water to prevent the beast from jumping.

One time at DVL ...

Clayton,

Did you use that bait I sent?

And ask him where he caught it as he has not answered my question....ha ha

I think Clayton moved to Laughlin, but used to live in the Logan District in SD. He got tired of the asada fries and the Padres and left for browner pastures apparently.

He's ...

Eastside Riders

https://i.ibb.co/pv1wRTHY/20250315-123729-2.jpg

The first time I went to the Eastern Sierras, it was late October and winter had come early. The GF (at the time) and I thought that trout fishing was like bass fishing, and arrived to the shoreline of Twin Lakes bright and early at 4 am, and the ...

Re: Looking to get a spinning reel for bass fishing

Honestly, if you're not trying to qualify for the Bassmaster's Classic, I'd get another spool for the Vanford 1000 that you have. You can put 100 yards of 6 or 7 pound test, or do the braid to flouro and you'd be set.

While the 2000/2500 frame size is more ideal for bass fishing, I fished with a ...

Jerks at the Pond

Omar, the resident high school dropout, was whizzing past on his 3 thousand dollar scooter just as I was releasing another chunky 2 pounder back into the aquamarine colored pond. He stopped to chat and get the juice.

Re: My newish bait @ Otay 3/26

Looks like a finesse punch rig! Definitely a fish catcher it looks like. Even though I've never punched real vegetation in my life, I value those skirts as they add bulk to your bait, without weighing them down. It almost seems it does the opposite by providing drag when your bait sinks.

Good job ...

Re: SoCal Dry Fly Fishing

Having some desiccant or a method of drying the wet dry flies was the first thing I realized I needed the first time dry fly fishing. My first cast, I was all excited, my 2nd cast, a little less so, and finally by my 4th, my Parachute Adams had become a Adams Streamer.

I also find that material ...

Shore pounding! Love that your feet is your trolling motor. Grew up shore pounding and still do it nearly on the daily, but it's a cement walkway instead of rugged terrain like in years past.

One time, I lost a nice fly set up on the Kern River, near Hole in the Ground. I was already back up the trail to the truck when I realized my eff up.

Re: Double Digit Bass! 2 Bites, 2 Big fish

You know, I think every Spring, we need to have a discussion on fishing beds, which almost reads like a flowchart.

From the start, you have guys who are adamantly against fishing beds. And I appreciate that. I also hope they appreciate the fact that when they 'blind cast,' they may be getting fish ...
