The Ole Pond
Ah, Probation Pond. A hard core angler’s humble yet all-inclusive abode, complete with blue tinted water, towering palm trees, and shopping cart reefs. Hungry? The catering is provided by the taco stand, and dessert is on wheels as the elote ...

Re: San Vee - Happy New Year
Nice work at the San Vicente Zoo!
It was definitely a zoo the Saturday of the tournament. I think there were over 100 boats that day.
But our last visit on the first Friday of 2025 that this report is based on? It was pretty empty.
The next Angler's tournament is El Capitan. 100 boats on ...

Re: Lake Havasu Video
During a tourney out there, I hook into what I thought was a nice smallmouth, since I was throwing a 1/4 ounce jig. Turns out it was a 2 pound redear, the size of a dinner plate.
Havasu is a fun fishery, for whatever you're into. I wish I lived closer, although a 5 hour drive isn't that bad.

Hood (Baby) Hawgs
The clock hadn't hit 11 am and Edna from Accounts Receivable had gotten on my last nerve. Usually this happens around 3 pm, but this was a new record for her. All morning, she had been asking ME , the Sr Project Manager, when we started billing a new client of ours, when SHE , the head of Accounts ...

Re: Hood (Baby) Hawgs
Hilarious. Where's all the yokels though?
Better hope Edna doesn't go on sdfish, she will hunt you down. Nice catch.
All the yokels where winding up their lines and making the walk down towards me. One of them was nice enough to take the pics.
And Edna? This is the same individual who opened ...

Re: You should have been here yesterday!
Only thing I've fished down there has been San Vicente on the 18th. It fished like the last 2 times I've been there in the past month, which means that you had fish on the boat, but zero discernible pattern. 4 wkeks ago, we're catching them in 40 to 50 feet, having to fizz them. 3 weeks ago, they're ...

Spots, Tourneys and Ponds
Spots
Once upon a time, I was asked what my favorite bass was to target. I blurted out "Spotted Bass!!" before the person asking could finish the question, and then went off on a campaign-like style pitch that would've made you think a Spotted Bass was running for office and I was their campaign ...

Of Lost Swimbaits and Near Decapitations
I know a guy who fishes the pond who is one of those "I Only Throw Swimbaits" guys. He eats, sleeps and $hits swimbaits. A few days ago, he had made his way down from the parking area, with what seemed to be yet another gargantuan sized plastic swinging from the end of his 9 foot setup. He began ...

Re: What a challenge 2/11
Sounds like you got a work out.
I just pulled out some fins that I use that I can't see being sold anymore, and they are the Hot Spot fins. I think they float.

Stocking, Dragons and Full Moons
It's stocking week at the pond. Which means I'll have the following interaction about 15 times a day this week:
"Did they stock yet?!"
"No."
"Damn! Do you know when they're gonna stock?"
"No."
A few moments later, the same $hit happens, with someone asking:
"Did they stock yet?!"
I need ...

I was there with you guys on Sunday. It was a pretty great pre-fishing session for us. I recognized faces, but I didn't wanna intrude on ya'lls launching.

Cap No Cap
0330 and we're leaving Los Angeles, en route to beautiful San Diego County, GPS set to El Cap, where we will hopefully not be donating our tournament fees to other anglers in two weeks. And speaking of anglers, even if we fail miserably, least we get free hot dogs for lunch, courtesy of Angler's ...

Re: PSA - Otay closed for algae bloom 2/19
Yep, our club tourney for Saturday got moved to El Cap. And then in 2 weeks, we have another tourney at El Cap.
Is it me, or are we seeing more and more algae blooms that are so bad they require closures of lakes?

I'm wondering what those other clubs are doing as far as rescheduling or cancelling.

Re: 2/24-AM Session/SD River
Way to put in work, Mr. VinnyBass.
From what I've seen from your posts, this place looks to be a very interesting fishery, very different from your local bass pond. Keep gettin' em, as it seems you have spots dialed in.

Re: Otay news concerning closing again.
Closed....opened....closed again.
Why did they even open it back up in the first place if the bloom is so bad it requires another closing?
