Re: Backbay Report
Try the bottom half of an outgoing tide on the flats just south of the Emory Channel. 6-9ft of water depending on the tide. Had a few there today and usually good for 1 or 2 a trip this time of year. Outgoing tide pulls the warm water out of the back bay and gets the bonefish fired up. Unfortunately ...

Re: Soupfin(?) at TL
Size, eye shape (soupfin have a slightly larger eye), and mouth (smouthhound have sandpaper like teeth, soupfin have sharp teeth). If you catch a small shark like that in the bay chances are it is a smoothhound

New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
On Wednesday the Dolphin Half Day Boat kept 121 Corvina from San Diego Bay. They have routinely been fishing the bay this spring and have been pushing farther and farther into the back bay. While totally legal it’s a pretty embarrassing look for the Dolphin considering rockfish season is open and ...

Re: New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
They are definitely starting to spawn which makes it even more cringy. Not to mention the fact they don’t even know what species they are catching and are likely submitting incorrect fish logs to Fish and Wildlife. And people wonder why they want to close our fisheries down….

Re: New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
I’m sorry but people need to be slammed for doing ignorant stuff like that. Legal limit or not, keeping 121 of a sensitive species in the middle of their spawn just so you can make a few extra filet $’s is exactly what’s wrong with our fishing industry. Not to mention they didn’t even know what ...

Lake Henshaw Bass + Carp on the Fly (video)
Made the drive out to Henshaw yesterday to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather. Forecast for Warner Springs area said "A nice day for outdoor activities" so I had a feeling it was going to be good day! Arrived right when they opened at 8:00am and by the time I got my permits, pressure ...

I'm sure some of you have heard about the fish kill that happened mid August on the East Walker River but if not here's a link to the WON article https://wonews.com/fish-die-off-strikes-east-walker-river/

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow
Halibut bite has been great lately along the bay side of the Silverstrand. Just look for the pelicans working the schools of micro bait. Had multiple keepers every day from Friday-Sunday and early last week had 6 keepers back to back days with 15+ shorts each day. Key this time of year is to move ...

FAT Bass and Carp on the Fly at Lake Henshaw (video)
Made it out to Henshaw this past week to do a little bass and carp fishing. Started the morning off throwing at carp with the fly rod and picked off a few on a black leech before the wind kicked up. Switched over to conventional tackle and started flipping the tree's with a black and blue creature ...

Flipping a Flooded Forrest for GIANT Bass (video)
Went back to the well at my current favorite lake in San Diego County looking to take advantage of the hot springtime bite that has been going on. The video is compilation of my last 2 trips out there, one in the boat and one walking and wading. Had 7-8 fish per trip with plenty of 2-4lb footballs ...

Re: Braid and Leader Line
10lb Braid to 12lb Fluoro is what we use 90% of the time. Really not a ton of benefit to fishing lighter then 12lb unless the water is clear or your targeting a more line shy species like Bonefish. Spotties eat 12lb just fine and you'll be glad you have it if you hook something bigger
