Pacific Beach Thursday May 29

I fished south of Crystal pier this morning from around 8-10. Tide was very low and rising quickly, holes and guts moved around and current was switching. Sand crabs plentiful all along the beach, two scoops with my colander got me all I wanted, mostly soft shells and a couple with roe. Waves were ...

Huntington Beach 06/06/25

A steady, if unspectacular small to medium BSP bite.. Ended with 15-20 perch on B2B sand crabs… The perch were smaller than what I was getting in Pacific Beach a week or two ago… Water was cooler, with surf manageable.. Little to no salad to deal with… A buddy managed a 15" corb, but that was the ...

Mission Beach 6/5

Very new to surf fishing (and this forum, for that matter). Overcast skies but I’ve been looking forward to fishing all week. Headed out after work, was there 5:30-7:30.

Little bit of kelp but I’ve seen worse in my short surf fishing career. Caught one perch, better than catching no perch.

Solana Beach 6/15

Midday trip to Solana Beach/Fletcher Cove for some fishing and family time. Sand crabs were a little tough to come by but caught 6 perch (personal record for a session!) on both blood and camo Gulp sand worms. Surf was on the heavier side, little bit of kelp, but all in all a fun day on the shore ...

Re: Live cam under Scripps PIER....

Good stuff right now. clear water moderate surge, big school of bait (white seaperch? walleye?) in view. 4 lobsters chillin on the piling...another one walking up and down the piling in the background.

Mission Beach 6/19

Arrived around 7:30a.m. Almost nobody out there, which maybe should’ve been a sign that the fish weren’t there, either! No takers for either the sand crabs or Gulp worms.

Got a few nibbles (I think), saw a few small rays, but left when the surf camps started arriving and the current was ...

Mission Beach 6/20

Back at it this morning at Mission Beach, taking advantage of some paid time off stretching things into a four day weekend. Shook my morning skunk sessions so now I at least know it’s possible at the time of the day, haha.

Couple of small perch within about 5 minutes of each other. Beautiful ...

Mission Bay 6/21

Today’s lesson learned is that I should probably keep at least a little bit of an eye on surf conditions before heading out. South Mission Bay at the peak of morning high tide was brutal. Heavy surf, lots of grass.

A small 3” bait fish of some sort washed up at my feet at some point so I’m not ...

North County trips.

I've gotten four of these in three trips and pulled the hook on about the same number. Frustrating. Using bigger-than-average sand crabs, which are a lot of work to find. But there doesn't seem to be an alternative.
Lots of other fish to catch. This morning, I tried the negative tide with a ...

Pacific Beach Tuesday July 1

I fished the surf Tuesday July 1 around 8:45-10:00 just south of Crystal Pier, tide rising from 8:55 0.6ft low. My first time out in about a month (had only one 15 minute session in all of June, which ended with a break off in a mass of kelp). Crabs plentiful everywhere, lots with roe. Grass was ...

Re: North County trips.

Krocodile is one of my favorites . You can use the single Siwash as supplied . I use a dressed treble that I tie that is almost the same length of the spoon . Just make sure the treble as it came from the factory has the single hook portion pointing to the concave of the spoon . Less snags . 5/8 oz ...

Mission Beach 7/6

Been itching to get out, arrived around 6:30 and fished until 9:30 or so. Took a while to get any bites although I was feeling lazy and didn’t move much from where I set up. Ended up with three small perch on Gulp sandworms (blood) all caught very close to shore.

Still looking for my first fish ...

Re: Mission Beach 7/6

… I rarely fish more than one beach per session…

It’ll be a long time before I have the time/energy to beach hop, especially in San Diego in the summer. I’ll commit to one in the morning but the last thing I feel like dealing with after a couple hours of standing in the ocean is finding parking ...

Re: North County trips.

It was a grind. I have never seen a calm day in Del Mar like in all the surf fishing YouTube videos. I'd almost take a skunk to deal with a quiet surf zone for a change. I ended with 3 or 4 small perch. A baby and a 3-foot Leopard shark, and an almost decent yellowfin croaker, about 50/50 sand crabs ...

Re: North County trips.

Went out this morning. Fished from 6:30 to 7:15. Caught 2 perch on crabs. Tried to throw an LC, seaweed almost every cast.
After 45 minutes, just got a cup of coffee and relaxed on the beach.

South Mission Beach 7/12

Arrived by 6:30, never seen the tide so far out there! Not that I’ve been going for any truly significant amount of time but it was way out. Couldn’t even really find many crabs for a bit.

Took about an hour to get my first hit, but as the tide came in I got 5-6 perch, all fairly small.

First ...

Mission Beach 7/18

Felt like getting out after the work week. Still some summer crowds so took it easy and waited for the swimmers to tire out. Decent amount of folks fishing, some catching stuff some not.

As for myself, caught a few Walleyes and a nice sized BSP before packing it up. Nice evening overall, gorgeous ...

Fletcher Cove 7/19

My son wanted to get in on the fishing action and asked to try some north county beaches. We attempted South Carlsbad State beach and Tamarack beach but shorelines were either too small or far too crowded to enjoy it.

Settled on Fletcher Cove (my personal favorite beach for relaxing), battled a ...

Re: Fletcher Cove 7/19

I’ve never been to Fletcher Cove… Looks like you picked the right spot…
Butch

It's a really nice beach and has a "locals only" vibe to it. Its nestled in between two very touristy areas both north and south of it, typically fairly easy to park at, and plenty of beach space for everyone to ...
