Re: Panfish Parade, San Vicente Memorial Day Weekend

Nice job as always. Really good quality overall. Any over two pounds are special. Yep, that one with the orange fins looks like a green sunfish hybrid. There seems to be a lot of them in there.

Re: Panfish Parade, San Vicente Memorial Day Weekend

I also have no idea what would qualify as a "green sunfish" - how hybrid can it be?

I miss having Queue to help us sort out these kind of questions. My understanding is that hybrids are sterile. That's why you can stock wipers without fear that they will reproduce and take over a lake ...

June 1st— San Vee trip

Can’t beat the gray weather, I arrived to a lite crowd. The fish were hanging in the same areas.
Largest one 2.15 lbs, a lot of very colorful specimens.

Hodges Crappies

So,

As everyone knows Hodges opened last week. I've been starving for a crappie bite all year. I had to go. Plus the kids have been asking to get out as well. Thought it was the perfect opportunity for both.

Got there in line before it opened to ensure we got a rental.

The ramp is now the parking ...

Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th

Hard to believe that today was my first time out this year. After going my whole life with excellent health, things have gone from bad to since I turned eighty. I really wanted to get out, actually I needed to get out. I got my boat out of mothballs and found that my trolling motor wasn't working. I ...

Now I Believe It - San Vicente Jun 12th

Last week after a year of forced hiatus, I finally got out fishing and had a good day. But it only gets better, because this week I got to share it with and old friend. Like last week, it was a short day of about 3 1/2 hours. I always feel pressure to catch some fish when someone goes with me, but ...

Just for the record, I do carry a flexible cloth tape made just for measuring fish. Officially the bad boy in the picture was 13.5" long with a girth of a full 15", weight was 2lbs 6ozs.

Re: Now I Believe It - San Vicente Jun 12th

There are some monsters in there. Other then the Colorado river chain, the size of panfish are under 12" in most places. We have a Jewell.
I will be out sharpening by skills next week. ( I have a ways to go) I'm glad its a life long hobby.

Re: Hodges Crappies

Went back for 2nds.

This time I got Dave out of his nice cushy crappie machine and into a good old fashion flat bottom rental. Fished moved on me but it only took a hour or so to re-locate them. Live scope not needed. Then we proceeded with the beat down.

Re: Father’s Day present

Happy belated fathers day . I remember the days of the Carter administration well . My top grade float tube consisted of a 17 inch truck tire tube and a rudimentary sling to sit in $15 bucks at the local sporting goods store . The back bay of Currituck sound in Virginia was a paradise . The duck ...

6/18 slabs

Headed out on the beautiful Sunday morning bass fishing. Sure the bass cooperated on hard baits, but not as beautiful of pics or size like a few crappies. Didn’t toss anything smaller than 1/2 oz cranks.
