Re: Peaceful Kayak Crappie Fishing Day

Disregard previous question.

It helps if I read it was on Father’s Day

Stickman, majority of county lakes have a certain day of the month they are closed:

Re: Peaceful Kayak Crappie Fishing Day

Got home, made five casts from my local beach, and caught two halibut and a calico bass.

Great catch blackcloud9 ! Would you mind sharing some of that expertise? Every time I go to my local beach (Torrey Pines) I end up empty handed. I almost feel like it's a curse of some sort :eyes_on_fire:

Quick morning trip

I got a itch to fish on a weekend, normally it’s week days. With the lighter crowds.
That’s a mistake, go when you can, turned out to be a nice day.
Caught 6 healthy crappie, and home by noon, very light breeze with no wind.

Pan fish trip 6/26

Arrived early to San Vicente, just a gorgeous day. I was looking for some nice panfish.
Caught a nice mess, bought home 4, had crappie from the weekend trip.
Nothing real big .
The pesky bass were on a tear, eating a cup of night crawlers .

Re: Quick morning trip

Guys,
I cooked up them crappie tonight, fillets. Mixing bowl 1/2 and 1/2 and 1 egg.
Put fillets on a paper towel and dry well.
Add Tony chacheres seasoning. Then dip in egg then into Zatarains fish fri (seasoned yellow box) .
As long as you live, you'll never let a fish swim away again.

Re: Santee Lakes Bluegill Blossoming

Great post! I'm working on an UL creek / pondfishing setup. I've got a secondhand 2 pc UL 6' rod and a pflueger president reel size 20 as well as a 5wt fly rod. Looking for easy pondfishing for panfish like this just to relax from school. Can you explain a bit more how you fly line on an UL setup ...

Re: Santee Lakes Bluegill Blossoming

Look up 1wt fly rods on EBay. Makes those Gills fight hard, bend your rod clear down to the handle, adds a bit of Crazy to the equation for $60 for a complete package. Turns Creek Trout into Giants!

Lake Murray

Water level is still low and made launching a little tough. Fishing was tougher. Fished a lot of different depths and flies to catch 2 blue gill. Probable 2 weeks away from being able to use launch ramp.

There are Pumpkinseed in Lake Hemet and Big Bear Lake. They do well in higher elevations

Otay Ultralight 11/25

Went ultralight fishing again at Otay. Caught a dozen or so small bass, but the highlight was seven large bluegill, all in the 2 to 2.5 pound range. Fish tacos here I come.
