Coronado 5-11

Post by kastmaster »

Save your gas! Salad was 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Made half a dozen casts in the morning at low tide-ish. Switched to the Glorietta side for an hour, one missed bite there.

Salad is tough.. Hard to fish with your bait sitting on top of a kelp paddy…

That's always a bummer. I've done Coronado off & on for past few years and can't tell you the number of times its been so bad, I just packed it in after half dozen casts or so of walking the beach to find an opening. I then would head for Mission or PB and usually found conditions clear of salad. So, here's my take on going to Coronado. If there's a swell from the south, which we've been getting a lot of the past few months, I avoid it. If the swells are more from the N or NW, when MB, PB or other direct west facing beaches might have a grass/kelp problem, I've found Coronado will usually be free of salad. Had some really good days there . . big perch, corbina & yfc's.

I have given up on fishing Coronado. If that's the beach we're at for the day, the pole stays at home. I've broken a rod there in that mess. Granted, it was when I was first starting and not using an 'appropriate' rod, but every time has been a total mess. I have not considered it being the opposite of MB/PB and trying on days when those days are bad, but if that's the case I'm more apt to just sit on the beach for an hour or so and then go get brunch
