Tough day....
Got to fishing slightly late 730ish
Was my first time catching outgoing tide at PB
Upsized hooks to #4 I now know the struggle of the knit-picking.
Had 3 perch landed including still a micro (he lost Russian roulette). One 6" one that was probably right at or under 10".
Lesson of the day. Trust your gut and listen to advice. After landing the mid size model inspected line hook knot looked a bit mangled but serviceable. Next cast best hit of the day tap tap crush good hook set hook popped off...I even picked up some longer shanks to keep perch teeth off the knot didn't use em didn't retie.
Positives of the day:
no skunk.
Was at the beach and fishing
Salad and current were down all though spots I identified as holes seem to be cabbage patch.

Re: PB 10-31
We've all had lessons learned on not re-tying knots & the painful experience of a big fish breakoff. Thanks for the report.

Nice session! Always nice to hear that the salad and currents are down and catching something is a nice bonusJteo wrote: Fri Oct 31, 2025 1:51 pm Tough day....

It's funny regarding the bigger hooks - I still have days where the fish are nibbling like crazy, other days they're hungry and take the bait no questions asked. No rhyme or reason to either, just how it goes, apparently.

Re: PB 10-31
I think there’s an unspoken agreement between fish and anglers that if you take the time to fix whatever is wrong with your line, hook, whatever, they’ll bite on your first cast back in the water.
No matter how slow the day is going for me, if I’m setting up new leader line because of a knot or a tangle or whatever, I get an immediate hookup on the first cast back. Makes the frustration worth it, haha.
So, yeah, when in doubt just fix whatever you think is broken.

Re: PB 10-31
I experience Murphy's law while fishing for example. Last 2 trips I have debated on bringing my ultra light set up just don't bring some fun to perching. Haven't because what if something bigger hits. I'm leaning towards heading back to my mecca ( Solana beach) or south Carlsbad this week. But following week I'll go ultra light back to PB I would put money on a non perch for that trip
