9/23-Finally back to Murray
Sometimes you just need a little break and decided it was time again to hit Murray in the morning before it gets too hot. Did not get an early start as I finally was on the water around 7:45a.m. Not much surface action so I decided to flip a little with a Tokyo rig. I probably mentioned it a number of times that ever since they lowered the water it just has not been the same for me. I got my first bite and missed it and and later finally landed a small bass in the tulles which felt good. Then decided to move away from the tulles and toss some plastics. I landed a 4.25lb bass on a senko which was fun. Now bass were stirring around the surface. I swore that I would not get suckered into wasting lots of time and making tons of cast into bass that have been concentrating on small shad and mostly ignoring many baits me and many others have been throwing. But there I was, out there tossing all types of baits. I rigged up a small hover rig with a paddle tail fluke and started landing some small bass which is always better than nothing. I later tossed a small ZaraSpook and landed a little healthier bass. Also got one on an A-Rig. Overall it was fun to be back on the water at Murray and ended up with 9 bass, most of them were
small but glad I went.
Just a few pics.....
Perfect size that McFish targets Here ya go McFish...Showing you a great bait for catching dinks Not big, but a little better than the others on top

Nice day back at the Murray.
You don’t show what you caught that last pictured Bass on, is it a secret bait?
Curious do you ever get skunked, I’ve never read a post where you did?
A little jealousy showing I guess.

Yes, of course I have been skunked. I think
earlier in the year I went up to Lake Poway with 2 swimbait rods and nothing but swimbaits and caught nothing. I was reeling in a Hud 68 fast in frustration before leaving and about a 2 1/2lb bass took a swipe at it which the excitement of the trip. Then went to Santee Lakes 2 times and basically practiced throwing swimbaits...as nothing was interested. I guess I could have posted something saying.... I tossed swimbaits only and got skunked but as many of you guys that throw swimbaits only....you are
going to get skunked a lot. Being skunked a lot means It take real determination to just throw them only and I gave about 3 hours each on the above lakes and that seems like 8 hours when you don't get a fish...ha ha. That is why I usually do not throw swimbaits only as I would have a lot of skunks on my back.
Other than that, I honestly rarely get skunked fishing other baits for bass. And on the very tough days, will usually toss a small worm on a drop shot rig just to catch a tiny bass. And sometimes I don't even waste time posting a report about 1 bass.I think I have been overexposed on this site posting so much and try to give many of you guys a break of seeing my dumb face holding a bass...ha ha
For example: I caught this one bass only at the river just over a week ago and did not do a report.
(That is a June bug colored brushhog in case you wondered)
Tight lines Vito

Actually I must admit that you have done very
very I mean very well catching lots of bass that
have been feeding on baby shad. Proof was your fish report on July 17th. I remember watching you from shore catch a bunch just while I stopped by the lake to check out things. I have been no where close to catching that many that at Murray this year or .......the last few years so my hats off to you.

Of course 3 hooks...you might be the most law abiding honest person I know! July 17th, the stars lined up perfectly...I'm not expecting another 37 fish day for many moons!VinnyBass wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 8:46 amOnly 3 hooks on the A-Rig so all legal.Mcfish wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 8:27 am7lber for sure! Re: 9/23-Finally back to Murray
Great job Vinny. I went to Murray yesterday. Got on the water at 8:30 and got off at noon as it got really hot. All I managed were a few dinks and clones. You caught some nice ones.

out there. It is not comfortable at all.
A little cooler weather on the way and hopefully
better bass on our hooks. I have caught mostly
dinks other with very few nicer ones in the mix.
See you out there one of these days soon.
