Cap 4/25

Post by KillinTime »

Had to get the gettin while the gettin is good, so we headed out there again today.

Overcast sky and veritable winds, that were very lite for El Cap. Mid 60s water temps.

Went right back to the scene of last weeks crime. The shad spawn was still on. They are thick, you can walk across the schools again. The shad we saw were much smaller today. Threw the same suspending cranks that we threw last time. It was hot action in waves until around 8:30 then it died off. Definitely not a hot for us as last week. Was still a ton of fun. Retrieve was more stop and go this week, not so much burning the bait. They were also short striking a lot. I was able to scratch up some fish on the mojo rig after the crank bite died off. Tried spinnerbait for at least a hour. With some really nicely placed casts, for nada.

Talked to 2 guys that only landed a handful, but they all ranged from 3.5 to 5.5 lbs. They were throwing drop shot (I mean black plastic. LOL). Got to love the quality over quantity!

More boats by far over last week and way way more over the trip before that. Water is down more since last week. At least a foot or two.

I did see SD Ranges at the lanch when I was leaving around 12:30, launching their Underwater Drone in efforts of surveying the launch ramp. From what they said it sounds like they are not sure on how much lower the water can go before the cut the launching off for trailer boats? Can't be too much more?

Great meeting you Dan! I totally enjoyed talking shop with you! Hope to see you again soon. I sure it won't be too long with how much good lake living you do every week =D I sure hope the City of SD does not make the lake schedule weekends only

Here are a couple of the better one's my Son Johnathan picked up on the crank bite.

Awesome! One of these days I'm gonna bribe one of you boat guys to haul me and my tube to that end of the lake! Even with the Bixpy it takes quit a while to get there and if the wind picks up, getting back before the lake closes becomes a legitimate concern lol.

I took really enjoyed our chat and hope we get to do it again soon! Give my best and congratulations to your son!

I do it! But we are going to need a hundred feet of rope to strap that aircraft carrier down to the boat.
