Looking for a big boy tube

Float tubes are a convenient and affordable way to get on the water, and finally get to those fish that you can't reach from shore. Discuss float tubes, outfitting float tubes for fishing, and float tube fishing.

Looking for a big boy tube

Post by Roncador »

Looking for something that'll work for a big boy like myself. I'm 5'11 around 300lbs so the standard fishcat doesn't work for me. Been looking at the savage gear tubes but they look a little too big. Any info is much appreciated.

If you want the INTREPID of tubes, the outcast prowler. It’s now unfortunately a $700 tube. Has a 5 year warranty

If you want a decent tube for a big boy, the classic accessories big horn tube. I fished it for a few years, great tube. You sit lower in the water as it has the old school non air or foam seat. It has two backrest bladders, don’t inflate the top as it will act like a sail in any wind

Get some nice, long dive fins. They will definitely help when you need the extra thrust

Appreciate all the info dude! Looks like the prowler is out of stock for now. That thing looks super nice, pricy but nice. Been trying to get into it for a while. There's a spot on Indian land out east I've been wanting to go night tubing at for a minute. I have this night scale deps 250 I need to catch a bass on.

I know the spot you’re talking about and spent many of moons there. If you have access, you’re one lucky dude! After the water rights were swapped out, it got pretty locked down. The black deps works there and the biggest rat you can find…

That's a hawg right there! Funny I have that same setup too, 300ej on a older brown teremar with the cork handles... I don't have access persay but I know where to get in. An old friend once told me they were trying to open a fishing program there but obviously nothing came into fruition. I got a couple pond spots I wanna tube at as well as the river.

Be careful, it’s properly posted and federally regulated now. Not like the good ole days. There’s some swamp donkeys in there.

Yeah, that teramar setup is legit. I unfortunately had to sell all my right handed reels a while back due to a wrist injury. Got rid of all my greens. Nothing like those reels.

I will, I've heard the way to go about it is take a taxi or Uber so they don't see your car parked. Plenty of other spots though. There's a lake in Tecate called Presa las Auras that's on the way to my grandpa's ranch that I've been dying to fish for a few years now. From what I've seen it's more of a reaction bait lake. Looks like a miniature Morena almost with all the boulders and stickups. And since the locals keep bass they are growing rather quickly. They built it in 2013 and stocked fish in I think 2015 so they've had almost a decade to fatten up. I really think it's setting up to be a big bass lake.

I’m in! Let’s go Haha. That other lake in Tecate, carrizo…I always wanted to make it there. There’s been stories of fishing it with no issues and others saying members only…it’s like Barrett. Never heard of that lake but it looks awesome.

I used to drop everything and everyone in the bushes, park far away and ride my bicycle in at night.

I think you have to be a part of some bass club to fish el carrizo at least that's how it used to be according to my grandpa. I'm down though for sure, PM me your number and I'll let you know when I'm going. Possibly in a couple weeks.

Will second the Prowler. I was 5'11" 315 when I got mine. No issues with the weight capacity for me. Love my Prowler.

I love mine, and I am a big guy.

Tubeless, nearly bulletproof, dropstitched floor and seat, rated for 400 lbs but I guarantee it can do more. It's a lot of hybrid tube considering it's price. I motorized mine tith a Bixpy underneath. Added wheels and have had no significant issues. Git me up if you'd like to try it out.

Hello Dannicus,
Received my FRM boards float tube and it is huge. Also attaching a trolling motor but trying to register at the DMV has been a royal pain. They want a serial number which I cannot find and trolling motor information. Have to go back next week and try again! Have you registered your tube?

Nope. I put a Bixpy underneath it and never had anyone question it. Been checked by fish and game several times and no one has said anything. Of course the motor is mounted underneath so it doesn't really look motorized like a trolling motor so ..

Thanks Dannicus,
After two tries I did get the float tube registered. Found a patient DMV worker that found a way to get all the right information needed to get it completed. Now going to work on getting the boaters card.
