9/30-Cool it Vinny

Ok...I need to cool it for a week or two with my Murray fish reports.
I have done a bunch of Lake Murray reports recently and they are all starting to sound the same and repetitious even to me. And if they seem that way to me, they surely have become boring to others.
The report: the bite has been good if you throw reaction baits because the bass are still eating up lots of shad all over the lake. I have not worm fished and cannot give you how the bite has been there, as all I have been doing for a number of months is sticking to reaction baits mostly worked out far away from shore. With bass eating up lots of shad, my advice, for what it is worth, is to make sure you bring some flukes with you as most of my fish in the last number of trips have been on flukes. It gets pretty exciting when I am working a fluke across the water and bass smack it 1, 2 and one time 4 times on the same cast before I was able to set the hook on a bass this morning.
Anyway, it started a little slower this morning (after getting on the water at around 7:20), but still managed to pull in 14 bass which was a lot of fun even though they were mostly clones and smaller.
OK...sorry as I am starting to ramble as usual.

Absolutely!
That bait is guaranteed to catch fish. I have not seem them at East Co. Bait & Tackle
recently, so you are lucky you have some. The bass should be gobbling them up
as soon as they hit the water so hold on to that rod of yours tightly.....ha ha

Am I correct when you throw your fluke, it is weightless and you don't let it sink much?
Speed of retrieve?
Here's the double fluke I have used successfully in the past, not being experienced with throwing a single.
If you can get past the 5-knots required, rod tip down and sideways jerks, the zig-zag of the 2 is phenomenal.

Double fluke rig is awesome. Nail weighting the far fluke can help if you want to get it down.

I have used a double fluke rig before and just have not done it for a number of years. Pretty amazing how they do not tangle up. Had more luck on the smaller flukes in the past on the double fluke rig.
Anyway I mostly am just using single weightless flukes. I am pretty sure most of you know how to rig them but just in case....I do the same type of rigging(see below)with all my flukes

As far as the retrieve it varies. Most of the time just work it like a jerk bait with a stop and go pumping action. There are times when you just toss it out there and a bass may slam it or even bringing it in skimming the top of the surface like an escaping bait fish works. It all depends how the bite it but basically a stop and go not too fast retrieve works best.

That’s a good idea… thank you. I remember just using a little bit heavier swivels to get the flukes down, but that sounds a lot better.

I’ll nail weight a single fluke most of the time unless I want it on the surface/ripping it or if it’s a magnum fluke. It will dart a lot further with the weight.
