Starting to feel alot like Winter....
You can't tell winter's coming by the daytime temps, but at 6:30 out on San V...I was feeling it! Air temp started out at 42, water temps 60-62. A nice little breeze out of the east didn't help. I was expecting some breaking fish, but found none after an extensive search! I brought out the dropshot, and started working shallow to deep. After only finding small fish in less than 15', I concentrated on 20'-35. After a couple hours of not much action, I decided to mix it up and started throwing a tiny soft shad bait. I worked the bait just under the surface, slow rolling with subtle twitches. I finally found fish, 20' off of rock walls, over 35' of water. The schooling fish would come up and hammer the bait from down deep. There's a funky algae bloom on the surface in various parts of the lake, but once you get below a couple feet, it's very clear. I'm not sure how long my pattern will work, I'll probably need to bring out the spoons soon! It's probably time to take some more lessons from the Spoonmaster Vinnybass! I guess I can kiss my topwater season goodbye already!

Re: Starting to feel alot like Winter....
Air temp of 42 means this guy was still in the house with sweatpants and a sweatshirt....and clutching a hot cup of coffee. I just find
it hard to go early when it is pretty cold out. Heck, in cold weather, I am too hyper anyway and start slowing down my retrieves after
10:00 a.m. or so. That way I am not working a worm faster than a spinnerbait...ha ha
Nice to see you back on the water again and using the old familiar "McFish Bass fishing Pattern" which is if a drop-shot doesn't work try
all types of baits or techniques till something works. This time of year it really can be tough and glad you were able to land bass
once again. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more San V fishing adventures from you.
