San V 2/5 Looking for Noah

Post by Moose »

After listening to the local news last night I headed out this morning half expecting to find Noah and his Ark out there to avoid the flooding!

Pretty sunrise this morning and only two other boats out when I launched and according to the worker at the ramp they left fairly early so I was, literally, the only one on the lake in the afternoon.

Day started out with three fairly quickly and then the bite got really weird. In the next two hours or so I missed somewhere around 20 bites and that’s not an exaggeration. Even with braid, I couldn’t get a decent hook into them. I’d set the hook, have them pinned for 3 or 4 seconds and then they’d come unbuttoned or get me in a bush. It was very frustrating. Between 7:30 and about 9 is when I missed all those bites. From about 9 until the rain picked up around 2 it was totally dead. Could not get a bite shallow or deep. Once the rain became steady, the bite picked up. I managed 6 in the last hour and a half. Ended up with 9 total. Best 5 were barely over 10lbs and I had to cull twice to get that.

The fish have been hammered the last couple of weekends with big tournaments ( and another one this weekend) and I think it’s affecting the bite. All of my bites were on the deeper side, between 25-40ft, all on dropshot.

Don’t know why I always look so pissed of in my fish pics 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Good job getting out there in this inclement (crappy) weather! I don't mind fishing in the rain in the spring but doing it in the winter and the bite is slow..is a whole different ballgame! That might explain the frown! It sounds like the little males are getting ready for the spawn and messing with your baits..or the red ears are out in force..
