Where are the Grunion

Well, I went to Del Mar beach last night, 08/29 and stayed till around midnight. No grunion. I was hoping to get some fishing in that night or the next day. I did fish a little that night, but the waves were huge and breaking far from shore. On a plus side, there are tons of sand crabs the size of those Cadbury mini chocolate eggs. I think if you stop by Del Mar beach on your way to Torrey Pines, pick up a bucket of san crabs, you'll have a shot further south. I have been fishing Torrey Pines and noticed this weekend a steep drop off about 30 feet from the shore. Anyway, I'm not giving up on surf fishing, but I did sign up for a trip on the Premier 1/2 day with H&M Landing this Friday.

Thanks for the report. The boats seem to be doing well from what I've heard & read, better than from the sand ! Hope you get into some good ones.

My neighbor a couple of days ago did well on the rock bass and got 2 large Bonita, which was tasty.

The grunion have been mostly running, in big numbers, up in Ventura through Santa Barbara Counties. I believe they are following the cooler water north. Last week was the last scheduled run but if you follow their runs they occur during both new and full moon periods...so maybe a few last"( ("unscheduled") runs to come before it's over for winter.
