8/28 Imperial Beach

Post by Perch killer »

Late report on my outing yesterday at IB, first time back in a number of years. I initially set up by T 7 north of the pier. Water coloration & conditions were OK, better than recently at the Strand & Coronado but the surf & SW swell was big. Could not keep my line in front of me. After 15 minutes of fighting the surge & not even a nibble, I decided to go up to the small jetty about 50 yards north & fished on the north side. Conditions much better as the jetty was mitigating the swell & no surge. Wide open bite for a good hour, 6 perch in the 6-8" size and 2 feisty yfc's, each 10". Smallish but they do put up a good tug. Even tried an imitation sidewinder crab & a HBB close to the rocks hoping to entice a slab perch or some other species but no action. A fun session. 8-)

Sounds like a good outing, YFC are hard fighters. Even if I.B. oftentimes has dirty water, I like the vibe down there. The pier scene is always festive. If the sewage issue ever gets fixed south of the border, I.B. real estate prices will double.
