Well.....fished it twice since it opened, learned one thing: it fishes alot tougher than the last few years! The water level is extremely depressing! The lake has hundreds of rockpiles, unfortunately 95% of them are on dry land now. The bad news is there will be no boats on the lake this year...the good news is there will be no boats on the lake this year to run over us tubers and yakers! Once again, I found all my fish on rock, unfortunately I don't know the rockpile locations at this water level and the obvious ones are hit hard right now! I'm hoping the fish start scattering after the spawn and it will open up more areas to fish! Right now it's mostly throwing crawbaits on isolated rocks. It's definitely like learning a whole new lake that I've fished for 50 years! I ended up with 5 fish and lost one...6 hours of hard work and not alot to show for it!

At least the crowds will slowly disappear and you and a couple others can have the lake to themselves….I mean the pond to themselves.
Hopefully things will improve and if you’re having a tough time, I would be really having a tough time, since you out fish me about 99% of the time there. Just remember to stay off my rock pile, even though it’s out of the water because it’s my rock pile. Thanks for the update and tight lines always.
And by the way, that was a nice looking bass!!!

I've taken lots of photos...my concern is the City will now rely on D.K. to supply San Diego with water! In a normal year, the city stops taking water in the fall and let's the winter rains refill the lake! This year they continued to flush water to San V throughout the winter....not good!

I was there last weekend for a few hours. I was going to bring my kayak but decided to just bring a rod and shore fish to scope it all out.
I knew the lake was low but dang, I was surprised at how low. The wind was crazy as well. Surprised to see so many tubes out there in the white caps.

While there i fished the left side of the dock.for an hour. Waiting to see someone launch or come in and load up. Seen a few kids lifting a Jon boat into a truck, it didn't look like fun. Still hoping I'd catch someone launch there yak.
My kayak is on a mini trailer and my wheels are not ment for beach sand, found that out at el cap. Im getting old and my kayak is heavy. I would like to get out there on my kayak, trying to find some different wheels to maybe help out.
After an hour of hurricane wind and no bites, I moved over to the right side of the dock.
The ranger came down checked my permit and anyone near by then continued down the lake.
Seen a kayak similar to mine come in, he beached himself, grabbed his truck, backed right up to it, dismantled his whole kayak then dragged it into his bed. Wish I still had a truck....looked simple enough but kinda tied up the area by the dock for 30-40mins. That sucks
Anyways, hooked up on 3 bass on the right side. 2 were super shallow, maybe 6ft off bank maybe on bed. 3rd was 30ft out all dragging a worm. After a few hours of strong winds, I decided to call it.
I was going to try and go this weekend but other things came up.
Maybe anyone with a kayak that's been up this year. How are you launching, or how has it been for you. My kayak is 12-6 and like 200#, any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated

It may be time to try a float tube for scenarios like this. After a total shoulder replacement, I had to get rid of the yak because of loading issues. You’ll have the best of both worlds for any and all situations.

I'm impressed the Ranger was checking permits! I know friday that guys were driving right by the permit station...that doesn't help our whole situation if it looks like no one is fishing the lake in the permit totals!

Haven't you seen all the excess water in Sutherland, El Cap, Hodges, and San V...me neither! It's all about the money...not what's good for the residents or the fisherman!

Forecast models are predicting an El Nino this summer, lasting into the winter, so hopefully it will fill up our reservoirs ... and then our leaders can flush it into the ocean.
