Mission Beach 2/7

Post by jwacky »

Fished the low tide at Mission Beach this morning. Slow morning with little action and few bites, though I did manage to pull in two medium sized perch. Lugworms were the only things getting any interest as the mussels were all but ignored.

The tide was pretty far out, as expected. What I wasn’t quite expecting was the swell. It was incredibly strong. The tide was getting pulled way out, and then in the blink of an eye I’d be almost up to my waste in water. Fairly strong currents along with the swells made for a chaotic and slightly stressful morning. It’s helping me learn to read tide and ocean charts better as I’m able to reference the experience to what the charts say I saw. Learning is good!

The water was clean, which is also good.

Unsure if I’ll attempt a pre-Super Bowl session tomorrow given the similar predicted conditions. The weather sure makes it hard to stay away, though.

Neep tides can be like that Joe . . I've never had much luck fishing them. Supposedly, can be good for halibut if calmer conditions. All bets off with the big swell & surf this weekend. I give you credit for giving it a shot and at least nice weather.

Tough conditions, but 2 in the hand is much better than none....
