Hit Canyon on the Tube this morning, for the first time in a while. it was nice and cool and the water temperature had dropped from a month ago. I Launched next to the Ramp by the Fire Station at 6:15 am. Starting up the rocky cliffs of the Ski Lake, I was bouncing a 1/8oz. Jighead with a ZMan Trout Trick in Green Lantern with one inch cut off. I went about 100 feet without a bite. The first little cove has two nice points one on each side. I cast right up on the first point and swam the Jig down the slope. Bang! Solid smack and a nice leap on the hook set. It was a solid Pound and a Half Bass and in really healthy shape. Four more casts in a row, each a little deeper and another fish landed. That dried up. Nothing in the cove itself, I threw the Jig up towards the next point. It was on fire! Working the point from different angles, I landed five more Bass in fifteen minutes. Then, the Grind. No more bites for the next 400 yards. Crossing the Arm to the other side, it was time to try the Reeds and Sunken Trees.
The Reeds were looking fishy but the first several patches did not produce while throwing a Texas Rigged 5 inch Tiki Worm on a 4/0 Spearpoint EWG Hook. The first stand of Trees was sitting in 3 to 5 feet of water. The first cast hit the Tree Stump and fell into the water. I got the familiar line twitch on the 30 braid, floating on the surface like Fly Line. The line moved off, leaving a little wake, I set the Hook Hard. This one was a Solid thick Bass around 3 1/2 ponds with really deep dark colors. The pattern that became evident was the Bass were on the outside wood so I just concentrated on that and didn’t explore anywhere else. I landed 3 more fish on the return trip, all on outside Stumps. I ended up with 13 Bass to 3 1/2 pounds, and due to the falling water, I found one Rebel Deep R, and about a dozen premium Dropshot weights that I plucked from from the recently exposed Branches of these Trees. A good trip, home by 2:30 pm.

Nice report! Nice fishing! I love fishing that lake. When I was kid me and my friends would drive are dirt bikes to the back end of the lake to fish. Those were always great times.

Re: Canyon Lake 10/31
That’s back when I used to flip rocks for Crawdads and pitch them next to the trees in the Jump Lagoon while walking the shore, 1979ish. In the early 70s we made the drive out there on Temescal Canyon from Orange County and my friends’ Dad would rent a boat. We just weren’t as good of fishermen back then. All we did was troll Heddon Sonics around. Still caught some big Crappie and Bass, just not very many.
