Morning Jig Time Again 8-16

Post by JWall »

Felt our way out to mid-Hauser in the dark today. Started getting bites on the green pumpkin jig n craws and stayed mostly on that til wrapping it up at 10:30 with 31 for me and a best of 3.2lbs. Didn’t see any busters and tried to stay between 10-20ft deep. The minnow and reapers added a few more for us plus a senko for Danno’s double digit count. Had a pow wow around 10am with Dave Early Release and Shawnster with Theo to compare notes. Theo’s notes were more in your face as the young legend caught fish after fish while the rest of us yik yakked. At least one of us was focused LOL. A great morning but with an earlier than usual breeze.

Good day! What's with the second pic, no rocks behind him.

Very observant D! We were setting up just above one of our usual stretches of rocky steeps to let the breeze drift us accordingly. But before we could get to the rocks, we started getting bites throwing at the edges of the underwater grass line in front of brush in the flatter, less rocky shoreline. One thing about Barrett, there’s fish everywhere. Our patterns still worked best in front of rocks though 😉

Was there fishing closer to the front of the lake on Saturday. All jig & worm action for me with the biggest being just over 4.5 on a trick worm. Finished the day with 37 fish. Both of my thumbs are still sore two days later. Always the sign of a great morning!

Crazy how that green pumpkin still does the trick. Always funny how one guy just keeps pulling them in while the rest of us are busy talking instead of fishing

Great to see you guys out there on Saturday John! We had a great time, but had to put in some work compared with recent sessions. I ended with 37, Theo was closer to 50 — but that’s after a full 12 hour day of fishing.

The larger fish were harder to come by—I think they were deeper than we were fishing. The spots that have recently been producing for us completely turned off and we couldn’t establish any solid patterns.

Theo was thrilled to catch a few fish in front of you guys—especially with the Reaper. After all, we would never have known about Reapers if it wasn’t for you! He hasn’t fished them in quite a while—after beating me with them on Saturday they are his old new favorite.

Honestly, nobody is having more fun than Theo. Let me know when he is looking for investors to help him turn pro 😉

Shhh… I’m trying to push him towards medicine or finance so he can support me in my fishing retirement ;)

Funny thing is that I think he almost gets a little star struck putting the SD fish names together with faces on the lake. I let him read these forums so he can learn from the crew — he knows everyone’s names and niches. When he recognizes folks from the forum he’s like OMG that’s (whomever). So he was particularly thrilled to fish and chat with all three of you.

By now I think we all realize Theo will be running the world someday. Your retirement is in great hands 😉
