It's not Barrett 8/8
Went to El Cap today, pay at the gate early. Many others there also. I knew going in I could even get skunked. No top water bites, no chatter bait bites. Switched up to throwing DS and texas rig worm at the bait being chased. I had 8 by 8am. Now at Barrett this year at 8am at least 30 most of the time. Kept plugging away and changed my texas rig weight to a split shot. Worm weight would slide through the grass to easy, I wanted to have to pop it more. That worked great! Short leader DS for deeper stuff and texas rig for grass. I ended up with 33 at 2:30. Now at Barrett this year I would have or be working on the Barrett goal. Biggest 4 1/2. Some were skinny even with bait everywhere.

Re: It's not Barrett 8/8
Comparing a Public Lake, and one with multiple Tournaments, to Barrett is going to get you the same answer every time. I fish Barrett type Lakes often. My closest got hit with a fish kill and Golden Algae this year, the Bass numbers dropped in half but it is still better than the local Public Lakes.
I used to fish Oso Lake in Orange County, another 100 Bass a day Lake. In the daytime we would catch lots of big headed small bodied Bass. The standard Bass anglers that show up at 9 am and were drinking Whiskey at the Clubhouse by 2 pm were in deep conversation about how to improve the quality of the Bass. Meanwhile, we would show up at 9pm and fish through the night, catching full bodied thick Bass 5-8 pounds. It was so good, time would go fast and the glow of early morning would come before you know it. We would finish up and head to Del Taco for a Breakfast Burrito and show pictures of the big Bass we caught. There were two populations of Bass in that Lake. Daytime brought out the heavily pressured smaller, multiple holes in their mouth, Bass. Night would serve up Story Fish. I know you canโt fish at El Cap at night(legally) but I bet it would provide a better class of Bass if you could. At least less skinny Bass. Perhaps those thicker Bass are right there close, watching the action but tight lipped after learning those little wiggly things we throw at them have stingers. Bigger Bass are older and wiser, but least they come out to play once in a while, and the pictures get more impressive because of it.

The rocks by the boat ramp use to have fish all over, now nada.
On another note I'm sore today from rocking and rolling from boats zipping all over. Barrett doesn't have that either.
