7/28- Monday Morning Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

Headed over to Murray and joined by my buddy Joe for a little morning session. The bass are there, but up and down so fast off the surface that it has been very challenging. Actually it is frustrating especially when you land you bait right next to or on top where a bass just jumped and no takers. Joe started off landing a few on flukes but I wanted to get a bass on a hard bait( I finally did later) and and then caved in and tossed a fluke and nailed a bass. It seems you have to be willing to make lots of casts just to pick up a bass off the surface and we both had fun landing bass(most all were just clones) and sharing our amazement on how many bass missed or avoided out baits. Anyway before we left, I headed over closer to shore so we could toss a few plastic worms. It figures that I would catch my biggest bass at 4.50 lbs on a plastic worm in just a short time after spending all the hours out in the middle of the lake. Again it was fun being out there with my buddy and we were not alone as there was at least 4 other boats, at least 5 kayaks, and I think there was 3 float tubes which was unusual for a Monday. I blame @Mcfish for posting about his amazing day weeks ago! ha ha.
Just kidding ya McFish :-)

Just a few pics....
Joe, there is a buster behind you!!!

There are plenty of Behavioral Health agencies in San Diego County. If you need help finding one, let me know. :-)

Because Vinny is intimately acquainted with them all.

No...actually because I know how to look things up and find all types of things. In fact, right now I am going to look you up
and find you. Ok....as of 5:45 a.m. this morning you were just getting on the water with your float tube at Lake Murray.
Was I right? :-)

Didn't want to do this....but........was forwarded this pic that a private investigator took of the secret reason for many of your many bass fishing successes at San V. Caught red handed with a bobber in your boat and now putting two and two together that the secret live well in your boat is a great place for shiners. Noticed there is not any more McFish Mondays at San V where this discovery was made.
So Sad. :-(

Was at El Cap about a month or so ago, and witnessed a lot of boats not being able to get on those fish that were exploding all over the place. What I often wonder about, is if the threadfin that these fish are eating (and we could tell by the ones they were throwing up all over the boat) are about 2 inches, why everyone around us seemed to be throwing these big ole topwaters that look like they resemble bigger forage that you find elsewhere around the country, rather than the tiny threadfin they were bustin' on. The only logical answer I have is that they think they can cast farther with a bigger bait, so they don't have to get right on top of the busting fish and push them down. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That day, I must have ran through about a dozen re-ties of different topwaters in 30 minutes until I found what was working best. My buddy was killing them on a rig that I've really never seen anybody throw at largemouth, but more for stripers or bonita. *HINT HINT*

It's weird how finicky these fish can be, because sometimes a drastic change will do it. Like going from a popper to a walking bait. But then sometimes the most minute change will get them to go. I guess that's what keeps us going back.

They can't resist 2" flukes and robo shad...hard to cast, but well worth it!
