Mision Beach past week
Got out for a late afternoon/sunset session last Thursday. Plenty of sand crabs but unless softshell or with roe, not getting hit. Half dozen or so of the usual hand size perchies, nothing bigger than 8". Had 2 good non perch hits and fish were on momentarily then unbuttoned. Suspect large corbina or croaker. Frustrating as you can imagine.
Out again this AM to another spot at MB. Huge hole but nothing was holding. Lots of perch either side of the hole. After almost 2 hours in, decided to go to my other rod with a larger hook baited with mussel and hit the hole again to wait it out. After about 10 minutes, it hit and did not get away this time, a first of this season 18" spotfin.

Very nice!! Was out there early this morning. Dug up lots of nice size crabs w/ roe but still no bites that I could tell. Briefly moved to Gulp sandworms before a few final casts with crabs.
Likely headed back out this evening to try again.

South Mission Beach. Mostly sticking to a single spot, give or take 50-75 yards. Just depends on if I’m by myself or my son/daughter. Less people with me = more moving!Perch killer wrote: Sun Jun 08, 2025 1:05 pmWhere are you fishing at MB ? Single spot or moving around? Understand completely. Straight out from the LG station often has a fairly good hole. I pulled 4 big corbina out of it in an hour's time last year. Up the beach about half way to T 10 is good at times and also straight out from 10 seems to form holes off & on for good action. Further up by Belmont Park can be good too. Good luck to you.jwacky wrote: Sun Jun 08, 2025 1:18 pmSouth Mission Beach. Mostly sticking to a single spot, give or take 50-75 yards. Just depends on if I’m by myself or my son/daughter. Re: Mision Beach past week
Nice, thanks for the tips! The LG station tends to be around where I've been setting up because it's just close enough to the parking lot, but just far enough that it tends to not be crowded at the beginning or end of the day. I'll have to wander down a bit more the next time I'm there alone. Been doing a lot of studying on how to read the ocean/tide/waves, and everything led me to believe yesterday that it was a decent spot to try.Perch killer wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 2:50 pmUnderstand completely.
