Thank you for bringing this to our attention! I created a petition at change.org. I believe it requires 5 signatures to go live publicly on the site. Anyone with this link should be able to see, share, and sign it. I hope this is what you guys were looking for.

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
Friendly fisherman have been peacefully protesting Barrett way before it was ever opened to the public. Isn’t that what California pushes for these day? Peaceful protesting???

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
Just read the article and signed.... good luck, the price increase is way out of hand 150$ to fish barrett? As much as I love barrett I wouldn't fish barrett as much.. I guess I will still spend the cash to fish but a decline in sales for sure will seen especially during September when fishing slows way down...

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
I had an hour plus meeting with the Community Rep from the Mayors office. She was VERY attentive and took lots of notes besides all the visuals I had for her. She formats all the info and passes it up the chain of command. Keep in mind the issues I am addressing concern Barrett only. I really have no idea how this is going to end up. But I know one thing.....the new rates for the user fees will be voted on Monday, March 3rd at the 2 pm secession. If you can't attend the session in person you can go online to the City website and comment or call in live. This is Item 202.....FY 2026 Comprehensive User Fee Analysis. Keep the faith.

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
Just found this post.
Public input does make a difference. A huge difference. When covid hit and they wanted to close all the lakes, we formed a group out in east county and met a couple times a month to keep the lakes open. The group spearheaded an email campaign sending polite letters to the city councilmen. We met with a few politicians. The emails continued, politely. The point finally got across and Scott Sherman asked me to call off the dogs as the city council got the message. The county got involved, got the money to the city and the lakes stayed open. There was a ton of behind the scenes work from some dedicated fisherman and a lot of help from the bass fishing community.
Send polite emails to ALL the city councilman and ALL the County Board of Supervisors. Be succinct , polite and stay on topic. The more they get, the more they will stand up and pay attention. Keep the emails coming and blow up the email. It worked then and it will work now.
I did a Freedom of Information Act asking for the financials back then for everything doing with operating the city lakes program. That is like pulling a fire alarm in a building as it makes the govt stand up and pay attention. They sent me about 700 pages of coded accounts and the numbers. We did our homework and a lot of surprises were discovered. Lots of stuff is buried in the city lakes programs. The big numbers that gobble up budget numbers are the expense of the rangers and boats kept on staff for the water skiing program and the big shocker, the amount of money that is spent to pump the local porti-potties at the lakes . Especially the ones for Lake Murray. That is what bothered us the most. Like Tommy was saying, the public uses Lake Murray and do not pay a dime (they think that money comes from Park and Recreation but it does not) and then the cost to run the lakes program falls on the fisherman. If I remember correctly it was like $500,000 per year for pumping the shitters.
But back to the problem at hand, send the POLITE emails to the elected officials and you might get what you are looking for.

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
The old “rob Peter to pay Paul”, I agree why don’t they make the other lakes pay their fair share, even a small fee, every little bit helps.
In any case, I think the city made their decision on Monday, March 3rd, we’ll see.

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
Yes they did, or maybe it went back to committee for more discussion. I was there it was a marathon meeting. I got my full 1.5 minutes in this time. I was told the results will be on the website Thursday sometime or after they upload it. I still have some hope that they listened to my concerns about the outrageous increases for Barrett. I was real close to the person from the PUD who wrote the report and made sure he heard me as I was looking directly at him. There is also a website called "The People's Business" where you can see all the actions taken by the committee's from Council.
If anyone in going to the PCS Show at the OC Fair & Event Ctr I will be at the LTH(Let's Talk Hookup) booth......stop by and say hello.

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
I know the Council voted to pass the items #201 & #202.......but within the 9 pages did anyone see if they increased the fees for Barrett? I contacted the reporter from NBC 7 (Eric) who wrote the article and will email him the statement with recommendations for other revenue sources. He said he will look at it for a possible follow up article. Nothing will happen with me as I have the PCS show in OC the next 4 days. I just don't think enough thought was given to this other than "lets just raise the user fees". Stay tuned.

Is there the link that you can post up here and maybe get some other pair of eyes to review the council’s documents?

Cool, are you with an exhibitor booth or shopper lol?
Hope the attachment works, if so, too good to be true about the 2025 Barrett fees?

Supply, demand, folks.
Once every day gets sold out in minutes, guess what?
There's an individual, or machine, doing the math on how much they can keep upcharging, before they need to stop.
Since I see there are some dudes here that fish Barret various times during the year, I'm sure they have no problems paying more.
Econ 101, with a pinch of capitalism.
